So who do you think attacked the MensNiche servers?
 

The attack changes every time we change a config on our end, its been going on for just over a week, although we have it under control the attack is continuing at 1000mbs and the attacks change all the time, depending on what we do.

The cost to actually do an attack like this, not just one attack but several is high, we have 2 teams working on tracking down the attacker (at an incredible expense of course!). Authorities are also following leads and slowly step by step getting closer. The people we have protecting the server now are the best by far and have dealt with attacks on EBAY in the past.

This type of attack is obviously NOT a kid having fun, according to the people we have who have dealt as mentioned with BIG takes before this is the most persistent and most advanced attack they have seen...

Pissed off ex employee? We would say NO, we have only ever let 2 people go.

Pissed off affiliate who we canned for doing fraud, the cost of this attack is too much.

So who does that leave??

BTW before hosts and other people suggest this attack is cheap and easily avoidable let me guarantee you it isn't , we have had at least 5 of the top hosts on this board try and stop or filter with no success etc etc.

As I said, it is someone determined to cause you irrepairable financial damages. They want to keep you down if they are continuing.

a 1gbps attack isnt really that large, and there isnt really any huge cost since they're using hacked computers

1000Mbps attack can easily be generated and stabilized.

There sure is a way to stop them, since most of your traffic is HTTP theres definently ways to stop them.

I think it's a right wing religious group.

Like i said before, there are many attacks, different types etc etc.. Lets not go round in the circles, there is an high cost for someone doing this & no host as been able to filter it properly.

not really, technically speaking, i could go around and "hack" a few hundred servers within only a few hours using the vbulletin and phpbb exploits and have 10gbps of bw at my disposal by the end of the day, and it would cost me absolutely nothing

I once worked for a company that provided live feeds. They were under attack as well, even heavier then the traffic you are talking about. They also had to hire the best ppl, and teams were busy on it. Together with level3 and the fbi they tracked down the attacker. Guess what, a company that was also providing live feeds, and was pissed of this new company was growing very very fast

it coudl cost alot but it is not 100% impossible, i know only 1 person with the amount of bot nets for that kind of attack, so there is only few out there who could succeed in this.

I'm glad you gusy are in control again. It is strange that someone would go to such lengths to keep MN down. If they need deep pockets for it that sure rules scriptkiddies and disappointed customers out, also an ex employee is unlikely.

Truth be told all that is left seems to be competition, the money and motive is apparent, but I can hardly think of any company that would resort to such tactics.
