Every Canadian has to pay into those, even self-employed. Did you not read the title of the thread?

Actually, self-employed people should not pay EI premiums.

Myst 04-25-2005 07:06 AM

Everyone, employed and self-employed must pay CPP.

If you own 40% or more of the shares in your biz, EI payments are optional.

i handed in my t4's so not ssure, i paid around $2500 in taxes though.

L0stMind 04-25-2005 08:35 AM

I paid $0 EI. Self Employed.

I maxed out the CPP contribution. Forget what it is though.

In the end, I owe close to $6k in taxes, even with all the write-offs I can scrounge up. It's crap.

Myst 04-25-2005 11:34 PM

so u really dont have to pay cpp/ei if youre self employed?

rickholio 04-26-2005 01:11 AM

I'd have to ask my accountant if I've contributed to CPP, but I know I haven't paid in cent one to EI in close to a decade now, which spanned a period both as sole proprietor and, post incorporation, as president. I don't believe I've made any CPP contributions.

I have, however, maxxed out my RRSPs. :thumbsup

Hell, for all I know I may have some unused EI contributions that I'd made ages and ages ago and never drew on. :1orglaugh

Jay_StandAhead 04-26-2005 01:13 AM
