THIS IS BULLSHIT! -- Expired Domain Registered -

I have been watching a domain for a few months now waiting to grab it when it expired. It is a variation of a site I use and the type-in is very close. It expired a month ago but never became available. IT IS FUCKING BULLSHIT THAT SOMEONE CAN RENEW AN EXPIRED DOMAIN OVER A MONTH AFTER IT EXPIRED.

THEN THE ASSHOLE HAS THE NERVE TO SET-UP A LINK LIST ON IT, (USING MY BRANDING) AFTER IT SAT VACANT FOR OVER A YEAR.

BULLSHIT

There is a 45 day redemption period on all expired domains, always has been.

Expiring domains is a complicated issue, but i think theres around 75 days of "expiring" before you can register a domain again.

Yeah, the person that let it expire probably just renewed it.

pradaboy 04-24-2005 03:46 PM

lol, after expiration there's roughly 90 days of various cycles the domain has to go through before it becomes available to the consumer market. When it does there is a good chance (if it's a popular domainname or has any significant value) that it will be snapped up by a backorder service in which case you would have lucked out anyway.

Either someone beat you to it or he renewed, why do you rant off while you clearly have no clue how everything works.

XPays 04-24-2005 03:56 PM

except we need more info about whether you used any services to try and backorder the domain. pool.com and all of those shady ass services suck ass.

there is a debatable shadyness about expiration and acquisition and the unfair advantages of certain registrars and the mystery of how some domains vanish into renewals...

It was the original owner. He registered the domain in '99, never did anything with it. -

I could see a week, 2, or even a month...but over that ? If you have 5 years to extend and don't until it expires, you deserve to loose it. He's squatting -

not really, there are so many administrative angles that the extra time is protective.

if they are truly squatting then do a udrp action and get your domain...

Did you start your Linklist before he registered the domain? If he registered before how can u say he is squatting?

CybermedAndy 04-24-2005 04:30 PM

Curious as to what domain would make you this mad

The dates are shady but i think the owner has 45 days from expiry to re-register it , and the registrar also get another amount of time where they can re-register it ( before it technically expires ) If the owner doesnt pay the registrar can either buy it themselves or dump it and the registrar gets the money back for the extra year they were billed for it
