LENSMAN: A "search" solution
 

Many other boards allow advanced features, such as search, for paid subscribers only. You should try this. You'd have another revenue stream and better ID of people abusing the system.

Give a free reg option and a paid option, or an upgrade option.

I've been suggesting this for months now. Im sure anyone who uses GFY as a valuable business tool, and not just to troll, would gladly pay for the priveledge.

No offense to Lensman and crew but i refuse to pay 1 dollar for the functionality of this forum. Its their responsibility, not mine and with the money this forum makes this shouldnt be a problem.

Yes it could. I dont think the problem is someone abusing the search. I think its just lagging the server because of so many people using it. Thats all. Sorry if im wrong.
If it was simply abuse then a passphrase wouldve been made 6 months ago already to solve that simple problem.

Theres a huge rotating banner at the top.

Theres multiple small ads at the bottom.

Sometimes the fucking SKIN of this board gets sold.

i think they are taking daily backups of database
may be they can do search system coming late(as it renews cache once a day) and totally run in other server.

I'd probably pay for it, especially if there were a forum just for paying members. However Frank makes a good point, they make a fortune from all the page views we generate, they should be able to keep a simple search running. I mean this site makes 100k+ every month, set up a server farm for it if the server is lagging. They can keep google running fast, surely it's possible to keep the GFY working. It's just a matter of spending more on hardware. All these problems with the search are not exactly a great advertisement for whoever hosts this board.

I'd rather make a script / database solution that downloads GFY's database of threads and searches locally. Perhaps there's a need for this, like ***************.com has done... No way am I willing to pay for a search service. This isn't exactly a premium board that warrants such a thing.

Not only Donovan looks at it and sees that the search doesn't cut it. Now it won't even load.

Why not test that solution if there is a problem with search? Other big forums have done it.

just add a word verification box to verify you're a human and no bot and done
