i don't understand how people can stand that shit. alot of my friends listen to them, and i have tried, but its just so boring and listless that i can't bring myself to like it.
now before all you stinky hippies jump all over my shit, they're very talented musicians, but talented people don't always make good music. |

Then, even years later, when you're no longer in that altered state, the connections stays with you. |

Many people actually just like the music :) |
I liked their music and listen to it without being high...but the concerts are like sideshows.. I didnt say you had to be on drugs to enjoy it.. but there is a vibe in the air (usually LSD induced) and it electrifies everything around you. and makes if a "good time"
People go for the expericence of being there in that wild free atmosphere, they develop a bond and forever love the grateful dead. Ask your friend what makes him go to every show...or any dead head at that..they will probably tell you the its just a bit more than listening to the music. |
Grateful dead rocks!!!
|
i hate them and their stupid hippy bears.

The dead are true musicians, and you just don't understand the depth of there music untill you actually understand music itself. They brought folk songs to the masses again, and combined them with fantastic eletrical instruments doing things that, back then, were unheard of.
By todays standards, no there not innovating. But how can they? They are 40 somthing year old band, with the lead singer DEAD. Still I love the dead, I was lucky enough to go to 5 concerts, and they were all fantastic experiences. I will never forget RFK, with Dillian and Jerry playing most of the first set. I mean, you just don't see that sort of stuff anymore. |
BTW if you want a good track check out the 3 times they played Sage and Spirit. One is on One from the vault, the other is in 76 I beleive. Get the boot from 76 if you can ever find it, it is certainly worth it.

I watched a two hour documentary today on IFC on Jerry and Grisman
|
I like a few of their songs..old school music
|
I followed them and taped them for years. That was my job before I got into porn.
Still a complete Jerry freak to this day. Like fine wine, the dead have different tours/years like vintages with some being exceptional... oh yeah.. I experienced a revelation during a show in Berkeley in 85 that led me to being in this biz... |
I wasnt fond of them til I started listening to the Al Franken Show he plays their music during the breaks and filler in his radio show.
|
Like all things....some of the music rocks and other rolls. When they do their freeform jams, they are among the best. It is music that has an enduring quality and will be remembered when so many pop bands have passed.
