I was kinda lost at first until I read the title of that page, rather sad if you ask me.

Mike Okitch 04-22-2005 10:14 PM

That is really freaky. Sick even.

So I suppose people do that because their pet, after all, is part of the family.

Then, why not do the same with their actual family members once they pass on?

Babagirls 04-22-2005 10:16 PM

Vitasoy 04-22-2005 10:21 PM

Some of them look like they did when they were euthanized (the dogs laying down with head in front paws). Brings back shitty memories of past pets. Putting them down is hard. I can't imagine having a stuffed version of them.

You just have to let them go.

Downtime 04-29-2005 09:18 AM

that is fucked up, how'd u come across that anyway?

i could be wrong

the guy says he does one a day

the process (if you know anything of freeze drying takes way longer than that. Its a very delicate process, infection, mold, and many things come to play. You dont just toss an animal in the frezer and its done. Sound fake, i dont care to lok further, just looks way to unprofessional for SUCH AN EXPENSIVE hobby.

way expensive and time consuming., this guy makes it sound like cooking a pizza.

"I do an average of one animal a day, mostly cats," says Mansfield, who has freeze-dried everything from raccoons to lizards. "The only thing I don't do are fish. I don't know why, but fish just don't come out right."
here is info on the process

http://www.cr.nps.gov/museum/publica...er/prim42.html

Freeze-drying which is used to dry animal specimens, does so at very low internal chamber temperatures, lower than is used for most food processes. One animal specimen may take several weeks to dry. At this slow rate of drying the costs are high. Most paper and book material can withstand higher temperatures than those used to dry delicate animal specimens and there is a need for thermal energy to make the process efficient and cost effective.

anyhow, may be real, just doesnt seem like it...

I'm actually going to have my pet cremated and put into a small urn...seriously.
I have had him going on 12 years now and can't see myself just burying him in the back yard of a home I'm only renting...or in a field somewhere etc.
He deserves so much more for being a great companion for so long.
