Police: Teen faked BMW theft to buy Bentley

SEATTLE, Washington (Reuters) -- A 17 year-old high school student faked the theft of his 2002 BMW M3 in order to collect insurance money to upgrade to a Bentley, police said on Thursday.

The teen, a student of Skyline High School in Sammamish, a suburb of Seattle, had reported the car stolen earlier this week, said Michael Chiu, a spokesman for the police in Bellevue, another suburb located between Seattle and Sammamish.

Police in another town found the $47,000 BMW being stripped and arrested four suspects, who connected the teen to the theft, leading to his arrest.

"That investigation led us to believe that he wanted to upgrade to a Bentley," Chiu said.

Bentleys, featured frequently in U.S. hip-hop videos, have a suggested retail price of $160,000 for the Continental GT coupe and $240,000 for the Arnage sedan.

The BMW was in the name of the teen's mother name but was used as his vehicle, Chiu said. The student was released to his mother, and prosecutors are considering charges.

"give a mouse a cookie and they want some milk"

I knew kids in school who would have given a right arm for a BMW, let alone an M. Ungrateful POS.

Rob 04-22-2005 10:50 AM

Did he have $113,000 saved up or something?

Even if he got the full amount from the insurance company of $47,000 (which is unlikely) and he sold the M3 for the same amount of $47,000 (which again is highly unlikely) then he'd still have to come up with $66,000.

It's probably the same kid that's in my sig. :1orglaugh

man, are you that stupid?

he knew the people stripping the car...so basically he gets the insurance + can sell the parts to the highest bidder.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh - $113,000 for parts off a stripped 2002 BMW M3. PRICELESS!!!

They could have stripped it and gold plated each part and still barely reached the original $47,000 I quoted. Thanks for playing.

Nothing shocking, typical Armo thing to do.

Ps. If you stripped an M3 and sold each part seperatly, yes you would collect over 100k.

Well shit, in that case I'm going to go buy a couple brand new ones for $50,000 and strip them fuckers down and make some killer cash!!! Figure I can get $100,000 for each of them stripped down and pieced out...I'll make millions in just a couple of weeks! Yay for me!

I have a 2005 BMW that I paid $48,000 for, I bet I can get at least $110,000 for it stripped down. Why haven't I ever thought of this!?!?!

Failed logic at its best, FUCKING PRICELESS!!! :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

You heard of mass production? Write down half the parts of your BMW, call around for prices and get at me.

If you were to buy every part of a Ford Explorer you would spend over 70k in parts. If not more. MASS production buddy boy!

there is over 100+ vin numbers in car, and all parts and engine.

you must have lots of fun erasing that and selling. thats how you get busted.

I think they also give you a year in prison for each vin that you remove.

For used parts? I don't think so.

Maybe if you shop for all of the top of the line brand new parts then yes, you might spend more than actual retail but with used parts from a 2002 M3? Give me a fucking break.

All Im saying is, your car is worth more in parts then it is whole. Much more in parts. This type of fraud happens all the time in Cali. and junkyards, salvageyards, chop shops bank in on it like crazy.

I understand what you're saying but if you really think about it it really doesn't make a lot of sense. If I knew right now that I could tear apart my BMW to sell the parts and make $100,000 then I would be an idiot for even having a BMW and not a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.

I just can't follow the logic.

I get your point, but heres the thing. Most people that do this already know who to sell to and where these parts would go befor even choping up the ride or paying for it. Obviously they cant over saturate this so those that do this work as very tight community.
