** LCD TV and HD system - need advice on what kind of setup is the best...**
SO I just bought a LCD TV HD ready and today DirecTV is coming to install the new HD TIVO receiver. All well there.
So, what I need to know is what kind of cables I should use to also hook up my DVD player as well as my surround system. Is monster component cables the way to go or should I stick to Svideo? What is the ultimate setup? I dont care about the cost as I already spent a lot on the TV and the HD TIVO thing... |
No one with HD TV in here?!?!?! Wow!
|
Always use component over svideo if you have the option.
But you should check your HD receiver, DVD player and TV to see what input/outputs they have. If any of them have any digital video or DVI inputs / outputs then use those. Your satellite receiver probably won't though, and your DVD player won't unless it is brand new and a higher end model, so component will be the next best thing. |
First choices would be HDMI or DVI followed by componant. Most of the newer panel TV's have these connections so go for them if the DirecTV box supports them.
I have my LCD hooked up to a DVD recorder via the componant inputs and tuning regular TV through the recorder is much better than doing so through the coax input on the TV. |
Oystein, you should of invested in some golf lessons ! :winkwink:

DVI out from the sat box will look the best (not much better than componant), and componant from the DVD player it tops..
I just bought the new HD Tivo too (still in the box) not sure of the conections on it, i will be using componant (it has that for sure) for everything i have going through my tuner (DVD, SAT and PS2) to my 65 incher.. |
Monster has some great wiring sets you can get... i would switch to them :thumbsup ... and hire a pro to come over and callibrate the TV... they don't come tuned and color corrected :winkwink:

What LCD did you buy? Did you waste money and get a LCD Projection? Or get a real lcd tv (looks like a plasma about 3-5" thick)
Monster are the cables you want, and odds are you will run component, you dont need the higher ones of the monster as they don't make the picture any better then the standard monster ones. |
don't go with monster cables, they are way overpriced. If your tv has enough inputs run all your video through that with component cables, the red, blue, green ones. Then run Digital cables for audio from your decides into your surround sound receiver.
If your tv doesn't have enough inputs, you can run your video through the sound receiver if it is a newer and higher quality one. Just depends what you have. Can you post what models of stuff you have etc? |
OK ok, some good advice here. Except the one from JOEL! ;-))
What I got is the Sharp Aquos LCD (not projection but the thin one) and I added DirecTV HD TIVO and they actually gave me the HDMI cables. They said that was the best to go to the TV itself. There are some conflicting advice in here....... hmmm. Then I guess I should use component cables from my DVD player and Monster cables to/from my surround system for audio and just forget about sVideo. ? |
hit me up on icq. 638.77.860
I have a killer setup with pretty much the same setup your looking for. Just diff brands and stuff. |
