How much does Respect mean to you?

Do you appreciate it when people show you respect? Like does it matter to you if people look at you in the eyes when you talk to them and address them. I show everyone that I deal with respect, I look them in the eye and I address them in a proper manner, always. I was curious on how you guys felt about people and the way they act with you in a business sense and on a personnal level.

i think respect is one of the most important things ever

The big "R" word is very important in everything you do in life. Many people that wouldn't even consider you for a business opportunity can easily change their mind upon how you approach and present yourself. The respecting starts off with you, if you have self-respect, then the respect for that other person will be there automatically.

WERD! I think people tend to not take me as serious as they would another person in this biz, cause of the way I dress, it's no secret I'm a Cholo and people look at me as someone that doesnt know what Im talking about, but when they do get a fair chance to actually get to ME, I am a good friend and business person. No doubt!

I treat everyone the way I would expect to be treated. It's pretty simple.

On the point I quoted though, I must say this...What you and I deem as respectful, other cultures may not.

It's funny that you said exactly that, because my wife took a native studies course and learned something that she passed on to me. I ALWAYS look people directly in the eyes when I'm talking to. Not staring, but as you stated, showing respect.

One day I mentioned to my wife that an aboriginal friend of mine always looked down when I spoke, or when he spoke to me. I casually mentioned to her that I thought it was kind of rude. She told ME that they take it as an affront when you look them directly in the eyes. So while I always BELIEVE I'm being respectful, I'm also careful to take the other person's actions and reactions into consideration now.

I find that alot of people have a hard time looking at me when I speak to them, and I also think they get intimidated when I look directly at them. I have done it since I was young, My father would always tell me "look at me when I talk to you" and it's "yes or no" not "yea or naw" My Son already knows these rules and is very responsive to it and is already looking for that samelevel of respect when he talks to his friends or cousins.

I agree entirely, but there IS a big difference between a piercing stare and acknowledging someone with your eyes.

this is true and probably one of my biggest problems, Ramona said that some people take the way I look and act in a different way, my mannerism, but I mean nothing by it, If i did that person would know, but I understand what your saying and I am trying to correct that. :thumbsup
