What's a 4 letter, one word, .com domain worth?

An opportunity has arisen to aquire a:

- 4 letter
- single english dictionary word
- .com
- very brandeable
- used in everyday language (not obscure).

Gets over 1000 typeins/month just according to Overture (so many more in reality)

Ballpark, what should I go up to?

X37375787 04-20-2005 06:52 AM

depends solely what the domain is. yawn.com is gonna be worth less than show.com.

swedguy 04-20-2005 06:55 AM

What Vladimir said. It depends what word it is.

cafeaulait 04-20-2005 07:01 AM

Well, obviously I don't want to post the domain here and increase my own competition.

I know what you mean about the actual word, Its nearer show.com in optimism than a negative word like yawn.com or damn.com

Just really ballparky ideas wanted. I know its a tough call.

pradaboy 04-20-2005 07:14 AM

really tough to say, based on your description I would say up to $10K... but again the description is too vague to give an exact figure.

Hit me up on icq and I'll make you an offer.

Anywhere between $5 and $1,000,000. Hey, you asked for ballpark and I just gave you a really big ballpark.

He isn't looking to sell, he's looking to buy it and obviously you as competition isn't something he wants :winkwink:

Sorry, missed the "acquire" part.

I do this all the time for people: hit me up on icq, tell me the name, and I promise I won't buy it, but will help you assess it's real value. Fair enough?

That's a really nice offer and I appreciate it a lot, I'm sure you are a really stand-up guy, in fact I know you are given your reputation around here, but still I'm going to play my cards close for now, thanks again.

I'll hit you up as soon as I've aquired it or if it gets to rich for me I'll let you know also.

that's very nice of you for sure, I have a few friends I consult before buying domains. We have the same understanding and discuss these things over ICQ but we never interfere in each other's projects.

Most of us are chasing the same names, it's only a question of time and price. I mean, in the old days, I sent out 50-100 offers per day on names, and because I personalize them, I almost always get a response, so inevitably, I already have spoken to owners I didn't previously know.

I think I know which name cafeaulait is chasing. :winkwink:
