$21,000 for VideoBlog.com

VideoBlog.com sold this week for $21,000

What do you think? Worth it? Not worth it?

fuzzylogic 04-20-2005 01:45 AM

was that for the domain, the site, or both? where was it sold?

Reported in DNJournal.com

Well, I paid 6.2% of that price for bondageblog.com, and think I got a heck of a bargain. {keyword}blog.com domains do well in the search engines for {keyword}, if you blog extensively about {keyword} on the domain.

So the question is, can you imagine a way to make 16 times as much money from people searching for "video" as you could from the (five times smaller, per overture) set of people searching for "bondage"?

It could be done. From where I sit, the price is not obviously insane.

Dirty F 04-20-2005 09:45 AM

Video blogging is called vogging. The term will be big in a while.

i guarantee I can get fufukitty.com higher in the se for the search term nylon sex than nylonsexblog.com

a domain name is about branding that name, a domain name doesn't have much relevance on how high it gets in the se's anymore...it is just asd easy to get ANY domain high for ANY keyword with the right knowledge of how se's work

that is how I see it anyway...i have never put much relevance on a domain name personally, unless I was branding that name

Of course you can. The only question is how much time, effort, and resources you'll spend.

That's strongly contrary to my experience over the last couple of years.

Again, strongly contrary to my experience.

Also, {keyword}blog.com domains are fairly easy to brand. The brand's not exciting, but it can be quite memorable, which matters.

both taboo and me emailed the guy he was taking offers of 12k$ or more. at the time about 2-3 months ago.

guess he went larger :)

about an hour to create the page/site, and 10 minutes to load it into my se scripts....once that happens, i can have it in yahoo in less than a day and in google in less than 3 day...give it a week to get up to where I want it...but those are generally my working times right now for SE's

as for the domain name.....I have domains that i have getting higher rankings than keyworded domains for the same thing...

in fact, i have single pages in non-porn domains that are getting higher results than the porn keyworded domain for the same se terms...and everything was run through the same process to gain results...just different keyworded pages

so, i guess what I am trying to say...domain name has NO relevance to how high you get in the se's....in fact, have you tried purchasing a non-keyword term domain and just given it a shot just to see? that is how i figured it out

Very true:
I have
pantyfetishblog.com
pantyhosefetishblog.com
stockingfetishblog.com
nylonblog.com
totallyblog.com
And they are all getting a lot of typeins.
I will eventually do something with the nylonblog domain, but the others will be sold of sooner or later.

triumph 04-20-2005 12:38 PM

blog domains are hot, I bought a bunch of blog names from Rob, the guy that sold videoblog.com, he had some nice ones but I think he has sold most of the good ones.

Congrats to him for selling Videoblog.com! :thumbsup

Thanks - Sure the amount of typeins will grow over time as blogging becomes more popular.

Domains are skyrocketing in value because venture capital is moving into the domain markets.

The deals ahead will be eye popping on some domains and domain portfolios.

A huge deal was just done on YellowPages.com for $100 Million.

:thumbsup

Nicky 04-20-2005 02:34 PM

very nice, only blog domain I have is: nudecelebrityblog.com
havent really done anything with it yet, but I will, if I dont get a good offer for it :winkwink:

hoeblog.com
hoesblog.com

largeblog.com
petiteblog.com

m4fblog.com

Halcyon 04-20-2005 06:30 PM

I used to own "blogs.com"
But sold in WAY too soon. But sold it to friends (at moveabletype) and made enough to cover my domain investments for a lifetime. But such is the game.

(I still have smutblog.com, though) ;)

Sosa 04-20-2005 06:40 PM

blog this, blog that

And what I'm trying to say is, I don't agree with you. I'm not saying your nifty scripts can't overwhelm the importance of domain keywords, by using overwhelming numbers of backlinks and carefully chosen anchor text. Of course they can, if they are as good as you say they are. But that doesn't mean the factor doesn't exist.

I'm like the man who says "stealth and good marksmanship are important for deer hunting." And you're like the man who's saying "marksmanship doesn't matter; I'm so stealthy I can sneak up on a deer and stab him to death with a rusty screwdriver." Sure, but it's *easier* my way --- at least for everyone who doesn't have your +11 Boots of Stalking.

LOL. I remember when his prices were much lower... too bad I passed on them back then: mobile, video, gay, etc.... oh well... you live, you learn. anyway, we have plenty of blog domains now... perhaps too many (500+). But $21,000 is still a great buy for new owner.

geeknik 04-22-2005 07:48 AM

Heh.

I'll take $25,000 for thefetishblog.com. Anyone interested? :D

Site went live around 4/5/2005. Gotten 13,100 uniques, 35,000 pageviews. Couple of sales. It's linked on 4 or 5 sites only right now, so performance is good based just on that.

Code:

Time              Raw  Uniq  First  Reload
2005-04-22        364        144        134        204
2005-04-21        1,212        334        309        830
2005-04-20        1,041        350        328        653
2005-04-19        1,662        514        493        1,102
2005-04-18        2,146        894        875        1,193
2005-04-17        1,528        411        384        1,079

The type-in potential is HUGE, and the content that is on there is already getting SE hits. Not enough links in yet to get a PR bump in the latest google dance, but it's got a link in from a PR3, a PR5, and a PR6 site, so...

feN 04-22-2005 08:14 AM

So..who's pushing the balloon sex niche.. I got balloonblog.com :winkwink:

Yeah, videoblogging.com would be a nice one to have. I was lucky to get videoblogging.de, video-blogging.de and a few other .de domains though... were still available when I registered them :)

Um, no. Fetishblog.com might be worth a sum with commas in it, but in my opinion the "the" is a value-killer.

TurboAngel 04-22-2005 09:47 AM

:upsidedow

Dirty F 04-22-2005 10:10 AM

thefetishblog is worthless. fetishblog.com would be worth something. If this guy really thinks he can get 25k for it he smokes some good crack.

JayJay 04-22-2005 10:50 AM

Fuck I must not be moving with the times, I don't own even one blog domain nor do I want one?

I have balloon fetish sites - But will not be setting up a blog for it as I probably know everyone in this fetish who has a credit card!

Any offers for:
pantyfetishblog.com
pantyhosefetishblog.com
stockingfetishblog.com
totallyfetishblog.com ?

Will sell them all cheap to clear
(Cheap, that is, compared to the 21k for videoblog.com)!
