The fire hydrant was yellow and didn't appear to be too involved in the conversation.

I have no problem helping the less fortunate, in fact I advocate it, but most homeless people are homeless because they are either addicts or too lazy to work. That is a fact. I do everything I can for soingle mother types working two jobs to get by. Did you know that people collecting welfare in teh state of Hawaii make an average of $17 per hour? My girlfriends dad was telling me about how he used to be homeless at 19 and started doing manual labor jobs for people and saved up enough to move into an apartment with somebody else then he started working at a grocery store for a few years and went to community college then got a steady job at a bank at $45,000 per year. Now at 52 he owns his own motorcycle repair shop and a little pizza place down town. If they wanted to the homeless really wouldn't be homeless.Comment

We have a bit of a homeless problem up here. Which is amazing considering it's only a 150k populance metropolis. They're mostly polite though except for the young ones. Especially this one guy "Joe". He NEVER asks for money. He just stands around greeting people, talking with them etc etc. People buy him coffeee, sandwiches and give him change without even having to ask because he's polite and kind.
Then there's the 20some year old street punks who harass you for money. If you say no they call you everything but a white man and claim that you're selfish and an asshole for nto helping them. Last year this one fella attacked a woman for not giving him money.
A local reporter interviewed one of them and asked "Why don't you get a job to support yourself?.
His response?.....
Get ready for this....
"Why should I? I make $800 a week doing this and have my own condo appartment downtown here"
