Opera Vs. Firefox
ive been using firefox for a while now and i like it.. but ive been hearing alot about opera browser too...
any major differences between them? |
FF user interested in this as well.
I have never used Opera. |
no one knows?
|
you gotta pay for opera to be ad free..
but personally, it's the browser I use 90% of the time.. it's faster, has better keyboard browsing support.. (eg: press 'z' to go back, 'x' to go forward)... I love the way it tracks rss feeds... that being said, it's missing all the plugins you can get for firefox, version 7.54 was not as compatible with strangely coded sites.. ummm.. that's all the bad I can really think of... give the adware version a try and see if you like it :)... It's very configurable.. |
I tried opera few months ago, didn't really see anything worth switching over from firefox...
|
been a while but opera sucks the fart out of my asshole
|
I have both installed, I prefer firefox.

I tried Opera before I fell in love with Firefox.
It crashed frequently. Has features I never used. All the toolbars take up too much of the web display space area. Was significantly slower than Firefox. You have to pay for the ad free version which I stupidly did and then regretted doing. Firefox is a superior browser and the best on the market currently in my opinion. |
FF, woot woot!
|
Opera the best!
|
Opera is the best in my opinion. If the lack of space bothers you, it is because you haven't acquainted yourself with the many options you have at your disposal for customizing it, which when configured correctly gives you a larger view than does IE.
And when it comes to speed, there is no question whatsoever about which browser wins out. I have given FireFix a fair chance, but in all honesty it's a slow ass cow turd that in every respect feels like IE with a different tube top on. Also, it's Scandinavian. Upgrade, you filthy mongrels! |
Yeah.. opera's definately faster for me..
and the tool bars are HIGHLY minimized now... everything disappears... version 8.0 seems significantly better than 7.54... hasn't crashed on me yet, and it seems to be almost as compatible as firefox... firefox is significantly slower for me.. |
I havn't touched opera in about a year but i really like firefox :thumbsup
|
Opera for me and yes if you play around with the display settings, you have plenty of viewable area.
As we speak I have over 30 windows open in Opera. |
I use Opera but I never tried Firefox.
|
Well, the main engine is the same. It's GECKO, for both Firefox and Opera, Mozilla and Netscape, etc, etc.
I still think FireFox is a little faster. |
One thing I like with Opera is that you can minimize the tabs.
|
opera is a hundret times better! You better try it...it's much more comfortable though it's got issues with some sites here and there. E.g. you won't be able to sell something via ebay with opera...

As for the toolbars? Just uncheck them in the menus. It's too bad that Opera doesn't have all the neat pluggins that firefox has though cause then I'd use Opera exclusively. I use Opera for sites that require loading pictures and displaying thumbnails. It's so frigging fast. Almost instant. I use Firefox for gfy and sites that I need to be able to open links in new tabs while not stealing focus. Such as surfing TGPs. Just middle click every thumb or link and they load in tabs while keeping the focus on the originating page. For those who own TGPs here is a neat little boookmark for firefox that will remove MOST trade script codes from the source html instantly. This is great for when checking for redirects on your stuff or for checking out the competitions galleries. I don't suggest you let surfers know about this one though. I lost the page I got it from so I'll link it to one on my domain with instructions on how to set it up. http://bitching-galleries.com/temp/trade.htm |

For some reason when I go to ebay.ca in firefox it uses the american page on the canadian domain. In Opera it uses the canadian page but is missing the "items located in canada" check box. In IE it works perfectly. Also, with Opera on ebay it sometimes chokes the browser up pretty hard. There's something in the code that Opera doesn't handle well. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a perfect browser and probably never will be as even though there is a web standard, nobody follows it anymore. Also, Opera doesn't handle javascript properly. Some stuff works but most doesn't. An example would be TGPs that use "shades" on their thumbs that darken the image but lighten them on mouseover. Doesn't work at all. |
Im using Opera, and I am VERY satisfied. I have tried FF, but liked Opera better. The ads in the free version is VERY VERY small...
|
I have both browsers, both are ok.
|
i think im gonna just stick to firefox...
