Yahoo question
I'm trying to submit a site to Yahoo, but can only come up with the $299 "Express" service. Is there no longer the free kind? Last time I looked, you could do it either way.

Was the last time you looked in 1996? http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif
Actually, I think there are some categories that you can still submit to for free, but most business categories require the $300-$600 submission fee... |
I was under the impression it costs around $600 to submit an adult site...and that didn't even gaurauntee a listing.
|
Yeah, it's $300 for a regular business site and $600 for an adult site... just to get reviewed.
|
Indeed, and when it doesn't match one of the 946 criteria... bye bye money...
They're cutting their own skin off... ------------------ CobaltWeb - High Volume Hosting - $0.70-$0.61 per GB - Plans from $13.99 per Month - No Setup Fee ---The End of Free Hosting--- |
I was reading they want $600/year from now on to keep your site in their! I don't think it effects current sites though.
And I don't know if things have changed but their review process and trying to get somebody to talk to is the most fucked up thing I have ever experienced. I never cheated them and had sites from almost 2 years ago yanked for no reason. My pages didn't change, no consoles, clear enter button and navigation, etc. It was during the time the express had started. Anyways I spent my time on actual sites with logos and unique niches and shit and had a good success rate. only a few never got listed. But fuck me just months later I lost over 10 of my sites and was so pissed because of the filler crap and cheaters that are still in their today. I tried so many fucking times to email a different time for each domain and even my express case # and I never over a couple months got any reply. That was bs to say the least. And during the review process if they didn't like it and you got another chance I never got a personal response, just this long ass copy and pasted rule list that didn't tell me shit It could have been the luck of my reviewers or just an error, I don't know, but I hated the way they ran things without fucking answering people. |
Yeah...that's a shitty thing to do...BUT what do they care, they got your money.

Yep ... $600 and no guaranteed listing ...
PLUS ... and check this because I'm not sure ... But I hear that even if you get listed ... they now hit you up for another $600 annually to stay there ... Apparently this may have been implemented Jan. 1 ... Yahoo is good traffic ... but they're not going to get any blood money out of me ... So could you write that off as a business loss on your taxes?

Yes, you can write it off as an expense on your taxes, wether they accept it or not.
As a loss? you mean like a failed contract or a bad check? That's not how I would deduct it... |
Greets.
Here's the link you want to read regarding Yahoo: http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/terms.html#2.4 Oh yeah. I almost forgot. Go fuck yourself, Yahoo. Fro |
I lived in the Bay Area for 20+ years in Mountain View, I saw a lot of VERY BIG company's go bust, still to this day the big shots of most of those company's do not know why they are now working for
some else now.. And am not talking about the latest ones the so called dot com'ers.. Some people are just down right stupid and completely forgot were the came from and don't have a clue were their going. Must be there dart board is out of alignment. Yahoo has changed a lot of things lately, there trying this and that. Jim |
Back in the late 90's Yahoo was one of the largest search engines/directories, but I think their days are numbered...
They got greedy too fast. And unfortunatly greedy people never learn http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/frown.gif. ------------------ Snazzy SnazzyTGP.com |

Goin way way back are we? :c) |
yep, I think Yahoo must be feeling the pinch. Not only do you need to pay for a review nowadays, but they put ads and even fpa's in the egroups messages.

No doubt. I knew things were bad when I started getting popups reading the daily news...
The only way I'd pay $600 now is if my site was in an under-populated niche and I was sure I'd be listed on the first page of results for certain keywords. [This message has been edited by JackFoley (edited 01-10-2002).] |
