I just spoke to a freind in NZ, she lives in a small town called Matata in the BOP.

Over the last 2 months they have been having 2-3 quakes A DAY!! Not big ones, just in the 3-4 range but she says it is a nightmare. The whole town is so tense that violence has increased dramaticly.

Its an area that has 7-8s on a fairly regular basis and they are overdue. It is a case of just waiting for it to happen.

I was in a 7.1 a few years ago in NZ and I would wish it on anyone.

i was watching megaquakes on discovery science yesterday. they are talking about a 9.1 hitting off the north pacific coast. talk about damage never seen before!

There's been rather a lot of activity lately, it seems. I'm subscribed to the "BigQuake" newsletter, which mails me whenever there is a 5.5 or better anywhere, and a 4.5 or better in the U.S.
