"The Contender" who watches it?
It's not that bad a show! I was surprised at the professionalism and good sportsmanship.
Boxing is no friggin' joke. Watchin' these guys go for it is real edge of your seat stuff. |
i love it, just wished they would show the whole fight, not the dramatic edited clips...:2 cents:

I miss married with children and seinfield

It's a fantastic show. Wouldn't miss it.
|
I only started watching it the last 3-4 episodes and it rocks. I love it.

ROFLMAO! Yeah, it's like "Rocky Live" or something.
Only thing this tv show is missing is Burgess Meredith who played 'Mickey' in Rocky. Also, where's Mr. T??? |
Jeez, Stallone is like almost or is 60 years old. He looks great! Same with Leonard. He's younger but considering the brutality of the sport he's lucky to be lucid and able to move.

It's a great show and my girlfriend and I have been tuning in since the second episode. I like the fact that the 'better player/boxer' is the winner rather than shows like Survivor, where it's some wimp who happened to get overlooked during the game who wins.

predictions on the eventual winner anyone?

I stayed away from boxing cause it was so surrounded by crooked shit. Yet with Stallone and Leonard and mainstream tv looking at the sport perhaps that'll clean it up so that boxers who can cut the mustard get the props and fair shake they deserve. |
Typically, I hate reality shows. But I watch The Contender for the first time tonight and I like it a lot.
|
Haven't seen it yet but I hear it's really good.

it was a great show :thumbsup

I like it when a good shot is given in the ring. They have the slow motion, matrix effect going on, followed by Sly, half standing out of his seat, yelling 'Ohh!', with a concerned face.
Awesome show. :thumbsup |
I get that show confused with the one that had Team Corture and Team Liddel... Watched 2 or 3 episodes of that, haven't ever watched "The Contender" though... I take that back I watched ONE episode a while back.
Ever since I started watching UFC no boxing events, shows, nothing keep me entertained - My ole lady is the same way.... She is a huge hockey nut too not your average woman :) I just can't look at boxing the same way I did before the UFC. The first year I watched UFC I was one of those people who said Tyson could beat any UFC fighter's ass...... As the years went on, I am going to guess you can imagine where I stand now... The UFC version of contender was interesting with ALOT more suprises between fighters and ALOT of fights I thoguht would of went the other way... I can bet if Iw atched all of the contendor fights I would of guessed the winners at no worse than a 75% rate. Hey we all thought Oscar would never lose right... Have to have some margin of error ;) |

Giving the contenders money to gamble with was not my like. That's how many a fighter has fallen off. When Sly gave them a grand a piece he should have sat their asses down and laid down the law on boxers and finances. Get em' off to a good start. Too many of the fighters wanted to box for celebrity to impress people. That made me feel uneasy. It's a very dangerous sport. The training alone can kill a guy, I know! Only training worse than boxing is traditional Kung Fu. Talk about torture! UFC is another sport altogether. That's out and out fighting without biting and scratching. It's a tame street brawl where wrestlers can dominate. No sport calls for more strength and endurance than real wrestling. Boxing is longer but wrestling for your life is a whole different ball game. I'd rather go up against a prize fighter than a college wrestler. Boxing is three things: sport , art, science. There are boxers who can out-brute others but when it comes to fine boxing guys like De La Hoya and Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson take the cake. I'll be watching Contender not to see who wins the fights but to see who wins the battle of character. |
:thumbsup

Anyone notice that last night was the first time that Sly didn't meet the loser in the tunnel after the fight? No big deal, but I thought it was kinda strange.
