Has anyone ever shipped a crate overseas? im talking ship sized crate

One of those big ass ship containers?

Things are so cheap here im thinking since i know alot of people well here that i might start shipping it over...you can sell anything here for four times the price back home.

Has anyone tried something like this? I suppose customs etc would be a pain

Im looking fo costs...of course ill look elsewhere but you'd be suprised at what business people on here have done in the past.

Spunky 04-17-2005 08:19 PM

Usually they go through customs broker and shipping lines..Air freight is outrageous so by boat is more economical but time restraints and availability etc. What size crate and weight?

Nembrionic 04-17-2005 08:20 PM

I had to have a satellite dish shipped over by air from the US to Europe.
A 3.7m diameter dish which comes in 2 halfs, plus a bunch of other things.

Costed like 8 grand in USD I believe. (not ENTIRELY sure though). And that was 5 years ago.

well to make it worthwhile..im thinking by ship..and as big as possible...not heavy stuff..lots and lots of small things

il have to check some shipping companies...i think there are some large ones based in vancouver..thanks :thumbsup

L0stMind 04-17-2005 08:24 PM

are you talking asia to canada?

swedguy 04-17-2005 08:33 PM

Shop around when you are looking for quotes. I shipped 2 pallets (could've been 3 too... don't remember) filled with large size moving boxes from San Francisco to Sweden by boat and I got everything from $500-$2000. Make sure EVERYTHING is included in the quote otherwise you will get hit with a bunch of small fees that some "forget" to include.

Phoenix 04-18-2005 01:12 AM

thanks guys...yeah im talking from asia to canada...the opportunity is good enough to make me look into it seriously.

Got trusted people here in Korea...and im on the other side in Canada...so if the shipping and customs costs are not huge..there could be a good amount of margin in it.

I'm seeing some ridiculously low prices in stores here..so i imagine wholesale prices are even better.

DutchTeenCash 04-18-2005 01:20 AM

Done that a zillion times for my former job, lmk if I can do anything, it it needs to be shipped to EU I can help you out 16 91 547

edit : asia to canada just saw that sorry just waking up here... k well shouldnt be trouble but go for FOB (free on board) then get an agent to clear customs, make sure its crated ok NOT boxed thats damn expensive, if they have a zero percentage rate (meaning the agent can do customs themselves) Id prefer that

DutchTeenCash 04-18-2005 01:24 AM

You might wanna check import taxes on stuff AND if its compliant. If youre selling electronics you gotta have English manuals etc, EU has some stricter guidelines for that, but Im sure Canada has them too, re radio transmission guidelines etc. Otherwise youre stuck with a load of shit you cant resell. Check twice my 2 cents

toronto is home...im thinking of shipping general gadgets, small items...nothing name branded of course as i'll have to obey their price laws

for example..laser key chains are 2 bucks here...they go for 20-30 bucks in toronto.

t-shirts...i can but almost anything and also have some friends with factories here that make knock offs of expensive brand names...not the route i want to take...but their is a huge opportunity here.

silver necklaces which i priced in toronto for 100 cdn you can buy for like 12 bucks..the price differences are amazing

If you're gonna try a business like this, you should really stick to a few items rather than spreading yourself thing. I'd avoid electronics because of customs but other items like tshirts or jewelery can probably bring in a nice return.

yeah i am seeing prices on t-shirts for like 3 bucks...which could easily sell for 20-30 bucks..the mark up opportunity is huge

you know it...im thinking to drive though as im hella sick of planes

been on a plane almost every two weeks for a long time

if i grab a car you want to drive up?

WiredGuy 04-18-2005 01:33 AM

Getting into the import/export game I imagine is rather tought though, once you find wholesalers who will buy your goods, you need to have a constant supply coming in. Depending on the items I would think the upfront capital involved would be rather large. Of course, I'm just speculating, I really have no experience when it comes to Imp/Exp.

I'm already driving up on the 4th morning/afternoon and coming back on the 8th. My car is in desperate need of milage. Almost 4 years old and under 35,000km still. So I'm definitely driving :)

well..i saw the same sony headphones i bought in canada for 150 bucks for 55 here...but im sure sony wouldnt let me start a price war with them with their own goods...so that market is out.

t-shirts..non brnaded items etc..are super cheap....im going to try this out....helli can sit in a store all day and work porn while my girl works the cash register

Excellent information, I couldn't have said it better myself or with having as little sleep as I've had! :thumbsup

You would never belive the crap over sending your hardware to an overseas datacenter and the hoops you have to jump through.

I have some friends that I helped ship cars and motorcycles in these big containers, and they would fill the card up with Levis, and other things that were cheaper or unattainable back home.

I never asked him how much it cost, but I really don't think it cost more than a couple grand.

Rui 04-18-2005 06:48 AM

You will most likely end up getting your ass raped in customs :(

Phoenix 04-30-2005 04:19 PM

believe it or not..sat beside two guys who do shipping international..fluent in english and korean

only $3500 CDN to ship 8000kg from korea....theyy also have guys in korean customs..and toronto...almost seems too good to pass up

ill bump this thread when i have emptied the first crate....store front space is how im going while always looking to sell to a large multi chain store

WiredGuy 04-30-2005 04:24 PM

Might be hard to move 8 tons of merchandise, let alone buy 8 tons worth all upfront.

Even if you fill up the whole thing to maximize the shipping, its going to be very expensive to come up with the money to buy all that inventory, let alone pushing it. Of course if you can, that's some great returns you can make.

i bought a superman shirt awesome quality for 8 bucks..wholesale around 5...if i advertised for 15 they wuld be gone in a week....im planning on spending about 40k to bring the stuff over

have to find more good items...i have a meeting er phonecall setup with the shippers..they are sending me a streamlined info pack on what products i can bring over...and what ones escape duty. the general flow of the deal..i sat beside this guy for 12 hours and racked his brain...and also drank with a mexican guy on the plane, who buys uniforms in korea and sells them to large franchises in mexico, usa, and canada...money money money

all about getting stuff that is not manufactured here

Phoenix, you might want to check the quality of those laser pointer keychains. Shopper's Drug Mart sells them here for 99 cents each.

Yep, I bought a bunch of them (I use them to play with my cats, they love to chase the dot). They're 99 cents, come with 3 batteries and 3 or 5 different lenses to create different shapes with the dots.

Are these laser or just a regular red led light? I've some cheap ones before but they were just a regular light, not a laser point.

To be honest, I wouldn't know how to tell the difference. There is, however, a warning label on them which says "Laser radiation, avoid direct eye exposure", "laser diode" and "Class II Laser Product".

It emits a small red dot like any laser pointer I've seen, and has a range of at least 50 metres.
