If you want privacy, don't carry a cell phone.

Did you know that even if you close a cell phone, some people can still listen to your conversation (talking face to face with someone) and track you down!

mrthumbs 04-17-2005 10:22 AM

Track down, sure.
Listen.. No.

If you are on an analog network, your call is wide open on any scanner that can receive the 800 mhz cell phone frequencies. Most areas are all digital as are phones, but there are still some analog also.

Calvinguy 04-17-2005 10:34 AM

I remember the old days with analog mobilephones.... quite entertaining if you had a radioscanner. Even the police used to have an analog system.

Ogix 04-17-2005 10:37 AM

well, i didn't need a cell phone before couple of years ago.but i cant live without it right now :)

Tell me about it. I loved that shit.

"Hi Honey, sorry I can't come home today. I'm dead busy in <insert town that is 600 miles away>. I miss you so much, but I'll see you tomorrow" :1orglaugh

Basher 04-17-2005 10:48 AM

your mobile gives off a signal every few seconds or so to the nearest mast I believe this is how they track you down my seeing which mast the last signal came from the police have been using this way to track criminals down for a while. And yeah they can listen in too even if its swithced off they can switch it back on their end and evesdrop on you big brother and all that

GPS has nothing to do with mobile tracking. They track the phones by counting the distance from 3 nearest 'base stations', it's pretty accurate.

Basher 04-17-2005 11:05 AM

it has some good uses though like this click here i suppose it could be used the other way to see if your partner was having an affair

Maybe motorola didn't want you to know about it or people at that company aren't aware of it.

also, later next month cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketers!

Herb Kornfield 04-27-2005 10:01 AM

Your privacy ended the day you were born into this world.

We all have a name, an address, fingerprints, credit histories, SS#'s, tax ID's, not to mention school records, COUNTLESS photographs from area cameras, debit cards, auto records... the list goes on and on man.

A cell phone conversation is the least of my worries.

Peter Romero 04-27-2005 10:05 AM

If anyone wants to listen to me book porn all day then let em. If they want to watch... they have to join my sites & pay me $29.95. Cops too. It's really not that interesting.

numerical mode, they CANT hear you, seriously the key is changing like every 2 or 3 seconds..,. but tracking you ? hell yeah they can

Jace 04-27-2005 10:23 AM

i washed my cell phone by accident, when it came out of the washer and was dried, it started giving me a "gps failed, please contact service provider" error...:)

BuggyG 04-27-2005 11:01 AM

used to have friend who would fix any scanner you'd get at radio shack (or wherever).. as long as he could find the schematics on the net.. he'd fix it that you could listen in on all cells.. cordless.. police/fireman band

but.. lost touch with hiim.. no idea where he at now

nap 04-27-2005 04:59 PM

if you have new cell phone there is a gps chip in it.

nap 04-27-2005 05:04 PM

MS is developing software to be used with the cell phone company that I work for to track employees. The company who purchases the software can choose to either use triangulation or gps.

If you have a sprint phone and look @ the display you will notice a cross hair on the front of the phone. That is gps locator which can't be turned off completely.
