Yea, the son admitted to killing the whole family and that the whole story was BS not too long ago while in prison.

There was a murder there...but the book and subsequent movies are about the supposed hauntings that took place when another family moved in.
I will be honest tho'...that was the damn scariest book I ever read as a kid...especially the part when George Lutz is at the boathouse and looks up to see 2 red beady eyes looking back down at him from his daughter's window.
I remember putting the book down right there and telling myself I wouldn't read anymore for a couple of nights...LOL

Anson's book 666 is a cool read if you like Amityville. Just don't read part two, its silly.

as a collector of Jay Anson novels, you are correct.

His novel "666" is good.

Yeah I don't discount the fact that the book was good or scary, I think it could have stood on it's own merits as fiction if he tried...but then it was a bit of marketing genius because here it is 30 years later and people still think it's a true story.
