How can you tell if your appendix is about to explode?
I keep getting sharp pains in my lower right abdomen between my hip and bellybutton. How do you know when it's gonna burst? :upsidedow :helpme
|
if the pain goes on for more than a day,
best thing is you consult your doctor immediately |
you'll know when it bursts. you'll be fine 1 minute, and laying on the floor not moving the next minute.
go to a hospital or doctor. |
Yike,,,, my doctor keeps telling me Im fine. But today this pain came out of nowhere, man it hurts.
|
if you want....go to the hospital and ask them to check you out. Mine burst about 4 years ago, was only in hospital for about a week, but apparently i almost died, i was only 14 so i guess i was young enough to recover quickly. My intestine got infected so i had to have some of that removed as well, they thought i was gonna have to have one of those shit bags which you screw into your side, but i didnt in the end

and weeks before i was put into surgery, i got 3 doctors consulting each other. |
If its really appendix you will know, the pain is MAJOR I was doubling over when I had a problem with mine.

Did you have symptoms beforehand? |
When I had problems with mine I couldn't eat as well. Everything I ate came right back up. Went to the hospital and they did some tests, gave me some pain killers and put me on a clear liquid diet.

I woke up one morning with a stomach ache in the middle of my stomach. I thought it was mild food poisoning since I threw up. About 6 hours later the pain had moved to my right side. God knows I do not take good care of myself, but it did not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a pain does not move around unless something is serious. So I packed up some clothes and my laptop and drove myself to the ER. The doctors said it was a kidney stone so they kept me for 24 hours to watch it. They were wrong, it burst while waiting during this 24 hours. |
it's probably just gas.

Holy shit :( Thats scary stuff. |
When I had mine they didn't know if it was my appendix or not. Basically it hurt but I didn't have the other symptons like puking. They cut me open anyways and yup it was my appendix. The problem is if it does burst and you wait the shit will spread throughout your system and you are in a lot of trouble.

Oh yah, worst part of being in the hospital was the tube up the nose and no food for a few days. They pulled the tube out early (hurt like a bitch) then they decided they needed to put it back in. I have no fucking clue how it fealt I just remember it was worse than when it came out for the first time.

I was talking with friends one night about what to do the next day... all was well, I went to bed. Then I got a stomach ache and couldn't sleep.
8am the next day, I still hadn't slept and couldn't stand up right. I was hunched over with a major pain in my lower right side. I went straight to the hospital and they took a blood test and came back saying "we're taking the woman off the operating table that's in there now, and putting you on." and just like that, I was in there being operated on. My appendix ruptured while they worked and flooded my system with poisons. I had to spend the next 5 days in the hospital having my system flushed out with fluids and stuff. If you're not sure man, go get checked. Don't take chances. Another few more minutes and I'd have died or been in a coma... as Choker said. I waited until morning to complain about my sore stomach and it almost cost me. I was very pissed that day.... I had 3rd row center tickets to see Cats. Later people said "why didn't you give the tickets to someone else?" as if I was really in any condition to be giving out concert tickets while being operated on. |
I was sixteen when I got a horible stomach ach, I thought I needed to eat or something but it just got worse. I told my mom and she said I was just faking. I went four days without being able to stand up it hurt so bad. The fourth night my mom was on a date it was probably about 2am and I told my sister to call mom to take me to the hospital, she told me not to bother mom on her date. I called about an hour later and told her that I was going to die if she didnt take me to the hospital. When we got to the hospital they told her that my appendix had burst that day and she was lucky I was still alive... I went in for emergency surgery! the next morning when my sister woke up she felt like a real bitch...

i had mine out just before it was about to burst. It felt like gas, I got my dad (I was 15 on vacation) to get me things for an upset stomach but I sat in the hotel bathroom just in crippled cramp pain. Then I started coughing up blood. That was when I asked to go to the hospital.

my mother said it was lucky I was on vacation with my dad because she probably wouldn't have believed me since the week before I had pulled the whole 'I don't feel well' thing to try to get off school. Geeze mom, maybe I was starting to feel bad then, huh? Of course it happened on Martin Luther King day weekend and there was a blizard and I fell on the ice afterwards fucking my stitches too..ah, the fun. There was a California earthquake that weekend too. I know because all that was on the hotel TV when I was in was news about the earthquake and a Janet Jackson Rockumentry that they repeated on loop on MTV. |
Could be kidney stones.. kind of felt like that
|
Just go to the emergency room now, I've found it to be the only place that i can get real help from any doctors. All a doctor really does is poke at you then give you his opinion based on what he knows but what he learned 15 years ago may not be whats true today. In an emergency room at least they run tests on you and shit

They sent me home with appendix for the whole weekend saying that they had no idea what was causing pain and high fever ... And guess what .. on Monday it explode . :Oh crap I spent a week in a Hospital . |
Dude, get your ass over the ER, seriously.
About 6 months ago I was sat here working and I developed a pain like trapped wind. It kept me up all night in agony. I tried xlax, windese, everything to shift it. It turned out that my appendix had ruptured and was 4 times the normal size. An abulance came the following morning and I had surgery the same day. A few mor hours, a day tops, I would likely have died. No need to worry in your case. Just chill and get your ass to a doctor or the hospital. You have more than enough time. When you are crippled with pain and puking blood -- that's when you need to worry. Check it out dude and let us know how you get on! :) |

We thought my b/f had the flu a couple of years ago (since I had it the week before). Stomach ache, nausea, cold sweats, etc. Took him to the ER when the pain got bad. At first they thought it was kidney stones, until he basically
"crashed" in the ER. Turns out his appendix had burst, and he almost died. To make a VERY long story short, he went septic (infection in his blood), 2 emergency surgeries, 9 days induced coma, breathing tubes, fed through IV's, and 6 weeks in the hospital. As for kidney stones, my sister has them. As a matter of fact, she has one now. She says the pain comes and goes, but it is a bad pain. You should definitely see a doctor, ER is probably best. BTW, if it is a kidney stone, good luck passing it. :Oh crap |
mine burst a week before I had it removed...
I had had pain, throwing up blood, etc... finally went to a doc.. they removed it.. hospital for two weeks.. no biggy... but yeah, common symptoms preburst are sharp pain in middle/right/left, pain when applying pressure, nausea... |
wierd, one of my best friends just called me and said her husband is in the hospital getting his out, he had mild pain this am which got worse and worse, so he went to the ER...dont play around with it, wont hurt to get checked out....good luck
