Gift Ideas Needed: 1 year old boy
 

My friends kid is turning 1 on sunday and I want to get him something. I have NO idea what a kid that small even DOES so I don't know what they would want to play with.
Ideas are welcomed before I walk into Toysrus like an idiot and wander around for an hour picking my nose.

Actually dude, 1 year olds like lights and sounds. Pick up something at walmart that makes nice sounds when he touches it or lights up or something. Can't go wrong with that. :)

umm a one year old would love a riding toy like a little bike, you can get them at walmart, kmart or toys r us, and they arent an arm and a leg, just get the plastic ones, my daughter has a plastic barbie bike and she loves it. she is a year and a half

Tell them the age range of the bday kiddo, the amount you're looking to spend, and whether or not you want to get them something educational or just plain fun. I'm personally big on getting them books they'll grow with, but at 1-year, most likely the kid will be more interested in the box the toy comes in :)

sweetums: LOL exactly. Educational is a good idea, but moreso problem solving at that age. They can't really figure out what is going on with anything complex. So I am thinking like a standup workbench thingy with different shaped blocks and hammers and junk.

I am not too confident that the mexicans working at Toysrus have any idea what a good toy idea would be. I would be lucky if they spoke enough english to even understand what I meant. LOL

Just make sure if it's that its parent friendly - mostly meaning not too noisy. Let the parents choose what kind of sounds they want to hear from toys 1000 times over, not you. A lot of times for a kid that young clothing is a good option as well.

Bwahaha. I remember my aunt and uncle bought my sister and I these noisy swords. They would make REALLY loud noises when we played with them... and of course they were a hit. It didn't take long before there were no such thing as AA batteries in our world. ;)

At his age, the wrapping paper will be of more interest than the gift. Get him a teddy bear or some such, and a savings bond that can't be cashed until he's 21.

I should think that a nice CAR 380 cal pisto would work. Light weight, small grip, relatively low recoil, but still rubust enough to make a good everyday gun that can be fired often.

EXACTLY! And since he will just be learning, he will be blowing off plenty of rounds that won't even HIT the target. Cost of ammo will definitely be a consideration

This company leapfrog makes a bunch of great educational toys that go all the way up to like 12 years old. My youngest niece had a few of their items and loved them when she was 10 and 11.
