Lesson Learned : Always Keep Your Receipts

The only bad mistake is the one you don't learn from. :(

I went into my local 7-11 and bought some gas, snacks, etc. The total came out to about $42. The clerk accidently punched in $420.00 as the total. I never looked at the receipt and just tossed it out. I checked my bank statement just now and it showed up as $420.00. I dont have the receipt so I can't prove the true amount.

That sucks! :disgust

DateDoc 04-15-2005 08:14 AM

You can dispute it with the bank. 7-11 will have to prove you indeed bought 420 bucks worth of gas. Most likely they will see their error and credit you. Hmmm, is this a 4:20 joke?

LoL - I wish.

I'm on the phone with 7-11 right now.

PenisFace 04-15-2005 08:16 AM

find that bitch and give her a good smack.

pstation 04-15-2005 08:19 AM

you should always check the ammount on the receipt before signing it...

and wtf, $42 for gas? are you driving a semi, heh

BMW. I put high grade and it usually takes $35 - $40 to fill it up. I didn't even fill it up that time. :disgust

DateDoc 04-15-2005 08:38 AM

Tell 7-11 if they can't resolve it for you that you will, unfortunately, have no choice but to charge back the purchase through the bank as their is no way you bought that much gas. If you know the day you were there I do not think it will be hard for 7-11 to single out a $420 purchase. Should stick out like a sore thumb in their records.

kosta 04-15-2005 08:41 AM

holy shit man, that sucks.

do a chargeback.

Rob 04-15-2005 08:42 AM

Just got off the phone with the manager and she said that she was going to look through the books and do a quick audit. She is going to call me back within the hour.

ronaldo 04-15-2005 08:43 AM

Unless it's a clip joint, they'll refund your money.

A couple of years ago I made some bank deposits and took out $500 cash.

When I got home I went to take out the money and damn if it wasn't there. I had all my paperwork but no money.

I called the bank and they told me they'd have to wait until the end of the day to balance everything.

When I called back in the morning, they told me to come get my $500.00. Evidently I'd just left it sitting there like an idiot and THANKFULLY the clerk, wasn't sure where it belonged and put it back in her drawer.

In this case, all they have to do is compare the register to the debit machine and they'll see the mistake. If they look for a $420 purchase they'll see the mistake and I'd imagine, refund the money.

If you're talking to the manager now, and she doesn't satisfy you, make sure you end your conversation by asking for her DISTRICT manager's name and number. That alone will probably set her straight. OR, the DM will.

:2 cents:

Posted too late.

That sounds right. You'll get your money back.

sickkittens 04-15-2005 08:44 AM

7-11 should be able to fix it right away.

They should have known about it right away. They check receipts, checks, cash multiple times per day.

Rebecca Love 04-15-2005 08:45 AM

Chargeback chargeback chargeback! You should not have to pay for her mistake. And dont quote me, but by law I think you are only resoponsible for the first $50. Hell, what do I know?!?!? :(

Yeah. I'm sure the person who overcharged him knew about it at the end of their shift and obviously left a note for their supervisor.

Screaming 04-15-2005 08:47 AM

umm tell them to pull sales for that night and they will see the mistake, that and call your bank. spending 420 in a corner store isnt likely

Sosa 04-15-2005 08:47 AM

fuck that sucks

Greg Jacobson 04-15-2005 09:01 AM

Just admit that you spent $420 on scratch off lotto tickets :1orglaugh

Babagirls 04-15-2005 10:17 AM

they'll be able to give it back to you because of their income/outcome at the end of the day is going to be $400 too much, that right there is proof.

If they dont refund you, take them to small claims court. They DO KNOW they made a mistake (from all their accounting and etc), they'll probably just refund it back to you. If not, do a chargeback. And if that doesnt work, go steal $400 worth of lottery tickets LMAO

Rob 04-15-2005 10:20 AM

Still no call. I'm going to give her another 30 minutes and call her back. The only problem I can see is if the girl behind the counter saw the overcharge and somehow took the cash so the drawer broke even at the end of the night.

This sucks.

you've got nothing to worry about, nothing that cant be solved with a simple chargeback, unless you signed the receipt...then that might complicate things heh

Dude, even if the cash register said $420.00, all they have to do is look at the prices of the items and they'll see the mistake.

If the girl pocketed the money, there's gonna be a discrepancy between the CASH and the DEBIT CARD transactions, and SHE'LL get fired and probably charged with theft.

Re-reading and presuming now that the register said $42 and the debit machine said $420.00, they'll have the same time on them (or within a couple of minutes) and also see that there was no $420 purchase through the register and there's obviously a mistake.

Scott McD 04-15-2005 10:32 AM

Man that sucks.

Hope it's gets sorted out...
