ICQ SPAM
 

Lately I have found myself getting around 2-3 spam messages on icq daily. I am really fed up with these fag ass pathetic webmasters trying to make some money by 100% SPAM!

Any one else having the same problem?

You call 2-3 a day a problem ???

I get 4/5 icq spams a day!
It is very irritating!

I use to get them. Told'm if they didn't stop
I was going to screw with them. If they still did not stop I would just probe there ports and ping'm 1000 times aday. After a bit the spam stopped.

I hate those damn things also. I don't get them as often though, only like once every couple of days, so I should feel lucky.

I wonder if they actually sell anything with those spams. The scary thing is that they must, otherwise they wouldn't be doing all of the spamming for nothing.

Can't you stop these things by (a) requiring authorization before allowing someone to add you to their contact list (and then asking them some telling questions before authorizing them) and (b) setting your security permissions to the highest level?

Get a spammer, put them on "Ignore" and that's the end of them. (but ALWAYS play with their minds first... hehe... )

Good job guys...your effectively fighting back againts open proxy servers. So every time you DoS someone its just an open proxy server, possibly a public school or library.

If you wanna stop icq spam...get the fuck off ICQ & use aim like I do, the rate limits damn near stop all the spammers.

On ICQ you can still send a message to someone who requires authorisation. For us it seems to come in waves - I can get a some on mine for days while Marie gets none and vice versa.

i am invisible the whole time and never get icq spam.
also dont allow your online status to be seen from the web. i dont know how it is done but you can select that while installing icq or adding a new user to icq.
the spammers have tools to check a random numbers status and see if they are online, so they dont waste too much bandwidth for their spam, as there are too many inactive icq numbers.

They often use bots and new icq#'s for each message wave, so putting them on ignore doesn't solve the problem. Also, try to look at their info - I get "Unknown database error" message on 4 out of 5 spammers..

You can set it to only accept messages from the people on your list.

I get TONS of ICQ spam everyday! It drives me crazy! I put 'em on ignore, but it never stops! I even reported some of 'em, but I just don't have time to be reporting spammers all the fucking time. You'd think that ICQ would try & do something about this, since it brings down their credibility a lot!

I think I'm gonna take the suggestions & stay invisible.

Isn't there some company that specializes in ICQ spam?

What I do (get only 1 spam msg/month or so) :

- be invisible all day (like said before);
- only give your ICQ number to people you know. Don't post it on your website or any chatboards etc.
