Hello everybody! I am obviosly new and like every other new guy was hoping that if any of you experienced people had some time, you could swing by my site and maybe give me a few thoughts or bits of wisdom. I just started and don't get diddly for traffic, but I would truly appreciate any advice. www.the26.com

You need more banners

Personally I dont like sites that need horizontal scroll in 800 wide res. Theres a lot of people out there using 15 and 17 inch screens. Its so easy to layout at 100%

There's a spot about 2/3s of the way down, that is still pretty bare. Plug another advert in there and it should be perfect.

I agree with Dopy about the scrolling, that's a pain in the ass.

Heh, what Shooter is trying to say is you have turned your site into what is called a banner farm. Way too many banners, no tgp will have you.

Maybe what we need are MORE banner farms.
You know, if the surfers are getting it all for free we should irritate the hell out of them.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Do you think the flash stuff I did is a waste of time or do you think this will attract visitors? I thought maybe the new little animation of the chick sucking up terrorists might get some attention, or maybe I just have had too many beers.

Hunny, If you cut back on the banners you will have more luck, Surfers arent looking for cool or cool graphics, they want to go in and yank it! and bookmarkers want nice and neat, easy to find what they are looking for, they dont like having to search, they will back up never to return, It took me some time to realize that, but seriously it is the truth. and they also dont like waiting for a page to load, surfers are impatient. Some surfers dont even know how to bookmark a page.

just an idea I was thinking about- what about a crazy flash site ( kind of like joecartoon except for porn) I have alot of ideas (games, animations, ect...) I just don't want to spend alot of time ( since I don't really know this industry) on something that won't work. Here is an example of stuff I had in mind - http://www.the26.com/terror.html

I would use gifs instead of jpgs for your text graphics. Gifs come out a lot cleaner. Those jpgs are looking a little fuzzy to me.

Your logo banner at the top is freaking huge at 22K. If you have to show off that much at least slice it up into pieces using Adobe ImageReady for MacroMedia Fireworks. Those progs can also optimize the image to make it smaller. With that much whitespace in the logo you probably could get by with spacer.gif's in a table. Like an earlier member said you text or images with few colors should always be gif's. Pics and photos are almost always jpeg's.

ya know( Minnesota term) , I have to say ( i truly apprciate your comments--this info is priceless) --but this whole attitude about banner farms--I don't get. I am not a webmaster perse'(spelling?) but as a surfer I know what is the most annoying is pop ups(by-far). One of the most fun parts of having a computer and an internet connection is control. you(the surfer) gets to pick what you want to see. Since I provide the surfer with real content, shouldn't I also bombard them with adverts? they are all good looking ads--I don't think a surfer would be turned off by good looking ads(as long as they are not pop ups--again--pop up ads take away the control a surfer feels they have)
