Expiring Domain Services...

These companies or registrars that claim to be able to get expiring domains...

Can they deliver??
Are they scams??
Pay a fee to "try and get it" and then "sorry we couldn't" ???

If they can produce, who is best???

I'm looking at a domain expiring early next week and would like to snag it somehow...

snapnames.com is one i know of... and as far as i know... you never pay any fee for drop services unless they GET the domain name...

pool.com charges you for an account. But snapnames doesn't.

I've heard mixed opinions on which one is best.

Unless something has changed recently, Pool has always been a free account. You only pay if you win the expiring domain.

Yes they snap the names but the problem is unlike a year ago most or all put the domain into auction now, meaning you don't get *anything* halfway decent for the regular snap fee of $50-$70 anymore

Yep, hard to snag the medium domains for the minimum, they all go into auction.

My mistake lazycash, you're right. I don't know how new that is but pool does pre-authorize a $60 charge as a security measure.

Since I used my epassporte card to do this, the charge will remain pending for up to 30 days.

So what you're saying is Snapnames "snaps up the domain for me" but then plops it into an auction?????

So anyone else can then try to get that same Domain???

I thought they were doing that just for me.....

From a page I just came across on Snapnames.......

Simple Auctions: If yours is the only order, the domain name will be fulfilled to you for the minimum acquisition fee. If more than one order has been received, a short auction will take place to determine fair market value.

Yeah when I signed up they required a cc, but I didn't realize they actually do a pre authorization.

Yeah, with most of the services you will acquire the name if nobody else bids on it, but then you have to yourself if its worth $60 to get a domain nobody else wants.
