Designing for 800X600
Who are these people who surf the web in 800X600? Why must I design for them? I don't make buggywhips...

If you require 1024x then you are giving a huge portion of your visitors a bad time! Stats from January 2005:
1248x or higher: 13% 1024x 53% 800x 29% So unless you want to give 30% or so a hard time then you should make your site work with 800x600. Also, now this may not be very relevant for adult content, but.. 320x is actually a width you may want to work with for some kind of sites. PDAs, mobile phones and other such things are being connected to the net. Some of these do 640x width and eventually they too will do 800x, but if you want to make sure everybody is able to get your content then the lower it works with, the better. It's that simple. |
I have 12% for 800x600 screen users, I think this is more the norm than 30%?

Mobile technology may indeed have some bearing in the future, but I agree that 800X600 is by far the lowest percentage of visitors on most sites today.
Breakdown of the particular site I'm bitching about right now: "OK, 62% of my surfers are using 1024x768. 19% at 800x600 5% are unknown, and the rest are larger than 1024x768" So assuming my arithmetic is correct, %14 are larger than 1024X768. |
I surf with 640x480
