Good riddance.

It's amazing that people can't find better things to do with their lives than harass other people. I guess she figured she was perfect so it was her job to tell everyone else how to live. :321GFY

I agree. Being perfect doesn't give anyone the right to dictate on someone.

this woman was so nuts
she believed that all sex was rape
that marriage laws "mandated intercourse"
compared witch burning in old europe to the porn of today
she believed that since the jews got their own country.. that women should get their own too
and she married a gay man

crazy woman

geez some people get way to much credit..

"Intercourse remains a means, or the means, of physiologically making a woman inferior: communicating to her, cell by cell, her own inferior status ... pushing and thrusting until she gives in."

"a lot of male writers have drawn the conclusion that I'm saying all sex is rape." In other words, it's not that all sex involves force, but that all sex which does involve force is rape."

idiot. No disrespect to her family or to her death but , what a quack

Last time I cheked its WOMEN who control sex. If I had control of sex I'd be getting laid every night not semi-anually at best.

Fact is if a guy and a girl are together and he wants sex and she doesn't there's no sex. If the girl wants sex and they guy doesn't( could happen ) there sex, because they guy knows if he doesn't give in she won't give him some when he wants it. So who is in fucking control here?

I met Andrea once. I was the Forums and Lectures chair at my college, and in conjunction with the campus Women's Center, I presented a lecture by Ms. Dworkin, after which an impromtu "Take Back The Night" march took place.

I went along on the march since I was responsible for Ms. Dworkin's transportation that evening. I was pretty freaked when the march halted at an adult bookstore that I frequented. I was praying that the clerk wouldn't recognize me.

Fortunately he was too harried by all of the noise and such that I was not pointed out as a regular.

Later, following the peaceful march. the campus police stopped my car with Andrea inside, and harrassed us for 20 or so minutes, before giving me a totally bogus traffic ticket.

I felt sorry for Andrea. She was a lightening rod. Some of what she said, I actually agreed with, however, she also displayed some meglomania qualities that I think were her downfall. She always went for radical'er than thou positions which drew critics to her like a magnet.

Like Andrea, I truly disdain the misogynistic and rape promoting aspects that some in the adult industry promote. On the other hand, I feel that adults should have the right to enjoy erotic entertainment.

In many ways, Andrea Dworkin was misguided, however like most of us she was shaped by her own personal experiences (raped and abused in her youth). Life is not great for all women. There is no pleasure in being raped or abused against your will.

I will remember Andrea for her passion. Although I never agreed with many of her positions, I respected her convictions.

Andrea is an easy target, but the words she spoke and wrote gave voice to many women who have suffered through abusive relationships and rape. For that she deserves some positive recognition.

RIP Andrea...

This is true , but its hard to even believe her original rape stories after the recent ones, nor her flip flopping statements.

I wish there was a truth report that feeds out your head when you die.. actually scratch that.. only if your famous

I agree only with this: RIP Andrea. She was clearly tortured and now can have some peace.

In the meantime, all that toxic garbage she spewed about men is still floating around womyn's studies courses that seem to exist in their own little airless universe.

You say: "Like Andrea, I truly disdain the misogynistic and rape promoting aspects that some in the adult industry promote."

Um, okay, so do most of the people on this board and in the "real world".

This is a women who in 1983 drafted a bill that saw pornography as a "civil rights violation" against women.

This is so very ironic since porn actually reduces violence against women, needless pregnancies, transmission of diseases. I'd be frightened of a world without porn, and I mean that.

As scholar James Hillman has pointed out, pornographic images were on the caves at Lascaux, and are as fundamental to human life as water and food. (heh)

Her anger over what was clearly a troubled early life got extrapolated into grand theories and full scale demonizing of men. The world has thankfully passed her by.

DomBuyer 04-12-2005 04:10 AM

From a British profile of her some years back, Elaine Showalter wrote:

"I wish Andrea Dworkin no harm, but I doubt that many women will get up at 4am to watch her funeral."
