Grandpa's 93rd Bday (PICS)

Friday afternoon we celebrated my grandpa's 93rd birthday.

He spoke for about an hour about his life and asked everyone over 90 (there were many) to share some wisdom. He also had tables out displaying artifacts and photos from his life. It was like a living wake. Beautiful and joyous.

He wrote about the party here: http://caleb.diaryland.com/050409_54.html

Happy B-Day to Grandpa Caleb.

Will you introduce me to him during Cybernet Expo?

Never met him, but I can sense his vibes and my insticts cry out, "BEAUTIFUL!"

and if his grandson is any indication, to what lies beneath the skin, then my insticts cry out, "BEAUTIFUL"

Beautiful as in, a sense of the soul. Flesh dies. This ain't a would you hit it thread when I speak of beautiful.

Blessings to GC and all his kind.

He's in great shape. Still walks on the beach 3 times a week, then to and from church on Sunday.

MandyBlake 04-11-2005 12:43 PM

he is an amazing guy.

Thank you.
And that could very cool. Maybe I'll try to have a lunch with him or something in San Diego. Of course, we'd have to make sure nobody was wearing any "CRACK WHORE CONFESSIONALS" T shirts or anything. :)

Very sensitive thread. My girlfriend's grandpa died recently and I'm off to the funeral tomorrow.

I hope I can manage to wake up for it.

ssp 04-11-2005 12:47 PM

He looks like a very spriritual guy. :thumbsup

Ah but of course. I may work in adult but damn, I still have tact!

lol

That would be really cool and in addition, would make for an excellent opp to spend more face time with the DYNAMIC PINK DUO.

Fabulous! Happy Birthday to Caleb! I'd love to meet him. I must admit, I'm jealous of anyone whose grandparents are still living; I miss mine so much.

loverboy 04-11-2005 12:57 PM

what's his secret of staying that long?

He is a total optimist and is active and learning every day. He always makes sure he has things to look forward to like this party or reunions with old friends. (Of course, he gets excited every morning by the opportunity of a new day.)

He was a baptist minister, so he worked with MLK briefly. That photo has always been a treasured reminder for me that heroes are real people...even peers.

grandfather and grandson, both ministers, both spreading the same message of love, only through different mediums. the apple didn't fall far from the grand-tree here. :2 cents:

active lifestyle will definitely give you a boost of extra life, add with a dose of health diet plus regular exercise. My grandpa lived and work in a farm all of his entire life until he died and reached 99 yrs. It was a sad day for all of us but we are happy that he lived long enough and watch his 40 grandchildren grow

My Dad was 80 on Saturday.

LauraLee 04-11-2005 01:50 PM

Happy Birthday to Him!
I plan to bookmark his diary, i enjoyed reading his account of the special day and would imagine that i will enjoy many more of his spiritually positive accounts on life.

Spending quality time with them is the only way you can show how you
really appreciate the many countless efforts and unconditional love they
have shared for us to become who we are right now.

Too bad, i lost both of my grandpa's when i was still very young

tony286 04-11-2005 02:42 PM

Happy Birthday to GC!

In your interview, I had a chance to check out his website. He's definitly an optimist, and he definitly enjoys seeing/learning new things daily. He has a perfect soul, and that will live on forever.

I wish I were like you, Hal. I wish I could bring my grandparents back to celebrate their lives. I'm glad to see a grandson treating his grandfather like this. You are one of the few.

Cheers to GC! I wish many more happy birthdays your way!

ytcracker 04-11-2005 03:07 PM

sometimes the good live forever

Elli 04-11-2005 03:08 PM

That's so very cool! Wow, what an amazing life! Makes me feel like I haven't done much. :)

AcidMax 04-11-2005 03:10 PM

Very cool man, my grandfather recently passed away and it was an extremely difficult moment. He was an inspiration to me as well, and we learned how much of a true hero he really was after his death when we received his war records (of which he NEVER spoke about). He had won 2 bronze stars and a silver star (i believe thats what it was) in WWII.

I don't think many people realize how meaninful their grandparents can be to them and how much knowledge, experience and love they can share with those of us much younger. My grandfather had 1 wish, and that was to live until he was 85. His 85th birthday was Jan 6th and he passed in March.

Thats cool that you are that close with your grandfather, I hope you get many more years with him.

Andy

Wow.
Even though I know it is inevitable, and I know HE is cool with it, I am dreading his passing. I know it will be made easier because of how much we have shared the last few years. ((HUG))

Vanilla DeVille 04-11-2005 03:36 PM

That is so awesome!!! I never had grandparents and was always envious of my friends who did... What an amazing man. :)

LaurieX 04-11-2005 03:40 PM

My grandmother died about 5 years ago (was 98). I knew she was on her way out, so took my kids up to San Francisco to say good-bye. I was glad to have the opportunity as it was clear to me that she was ready to go meet up with her husband that had died 30 years earlier.

She told me, "I just have some prayers to say for a few people, and then I will be ready." When I was notified that she had passed I was sad for my loss, but I knew she was ready and her prayers had been said.

Thanks! Its amazing to hear a man at the end of the life say with confidence, "I have made the weight of my life count for what I believe in."

He inspires me.
(btw, tomorrow POPPY is joining Tassy and I for lunch with Caleb!)
