Some free advice on reporting child porn
 

I'm sure most of you have good intentions in this area, but good intentions can also come back to haunt you. The first thing is to realize that there are web-based agencies with websites designed to take such reports and deal with and remove such sites. Posting a link on a message board isn't the way to go, it only infuriates most board members and provides yet another link and more traffic to the site in question.

The OTHER thing is... and you may want to disagree with me on this one...... I recommend that you do NOT go reporting cp to local police. For one thing the cops in your local area or city are there to police your area or city, period. But the most important reason is that you run the risk of those same cops turning their attention on YOU. That's right, even with all your "good intentions", if they find any cp on your computer's cache they can actually ruin your life. What, you think your local officer Billy Ray and Chief Wiggums are going to fly over to another state or china or Russia and arrest the bad people?

Trust me, there have been cases right here on the webmaster boards of the odd webmaster getting arrested and his computer equipment taken, his name ruined locally, all for what they thought was "doing the right thing."
There have been many cases in both the USA and Canada already where this has happened. I'm not about to go spending a lot of time searching for links to support that, I know what I've read, I know what I've heard on the news, anyone who has been paying attention to such news items could tell you the same thing.

Your best bet is, if you find a highly questionable link out there, report it to sites like www.asacp.org, or do a quick search http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=rep...hoo%21+Search+ <--like this one and report it to a few different agencies. If you have the wherewithall to discover their host, report it there as well. If the host doesn't want to comply, REPORT THEM also, for non-compliance.

Aviod local cops though. That's my strongest advice here, take it or leave it. It's your life, it's your business.

And yes i agree, never tell local cops anything , they are usually inbred twits who use aol.

Contact local fbi field office or numerous internet agencies like asacp ( just dont rely on them )

And people, this includes the FBI. ASACP.org will get the FBI involved if they need to, YOU do not have to take it upon yourself to be calling them. If you do, I would drive far away from your house to use a pay phone and make that kind of report anonymously. Why? Because local cops and the FBI are in the habit of keeping records and profiling people like you who "do adult", good intentions or not.
