3 months, NO SMOKING, which includes a convention.

After the pneumonia ordeal, I had to go in for chest xrays every two weeks. The pneumonia, even after I started feeling great 2 months later, was still located in the lower bronchial tubes, in danger of scaring and creating a chronic situation.

It was determined later that I have adult asthma. And the asthma creates an environment that resperatory infections fester in.

Nevertheless, it is amazing what you are capable of when you finally see the light!

No smoking since the Las Vegas show. I made it though the Phoenix Forum which intimidated the hell out of me (in the past, I had always slipped back into smoking at shows).

Spunky 04-05-2005 07:01 PM

Good for you..keep it up :thumbsup

Poppy 04-05-2005 07:03 PM

Keep it going bro! Now, if we can only fix the other vice...j/k

Sly 04-05-2005 07:10 PM

Congratulations man. Keep at it. An event like a convention usually sends people back to the cigarette stand.

Sammy4u 04-05-2005 07:11 PM

Awesome Cory! It was great seeing you in Pheonix. Thanks for everything. ;)

aeon 04-05-2005 07:17 PM

Congrats. As long as you drink like a fish, your future as a novelist is still a possibility.

Smoking helps, but it's not a requisite like alcoholism. Who?d want to read the works of a sober Kerouac or Hemmingway?

Vanilla DeVille 04-05-2005 07:29 PM

No Shit???? I didn't know that, Cory!! A congrats is definitely in order!!! Good for you, Baybee!!! :thumbsup

I love Buenos Aires. Great city.

May I suggest you bring the gum or a patch? Man, I have awful nic fits. I am irritated by everyone around me. The gum helped me a ton.

I know somebody that will constantly go on 2-3 month stints of being smoke free. Then when convention hits he succumbs to temptation. The other night I looked away for a few minutes, looked back and saw a cigarette in his hand. Doh!

J$tyle$ 04-05-2005 07:43 PM

Awesome brotha!

I'm at almost 11 months - feels good!

Now, I just need to go to the gym and lose the damn 30lbs I put on since I quit!

LOL

Kroyrotica 04-05-2005 07:58 PM

Yes, you did very well my friend. You even were cool with us smoking next to ya and you still didn't budge. THAT is willpower!

I get people asking me all the time "should we not smoke while you are here...?"

Thing is, if you really want to quit, you need to be able to stand by a smoker. IMO.

I am only 3 months in, but I have some health issues that have made it clear smoking is not good for me. I just focus on that.

tASSy 04-05-2005 08:10 PM

awesome, cory! congrats on 3 months of being smoke-free. i too, was afraid going to phoenix and the bars there would remind me of smoking cigs like i did when i lived there, but apparently it's true - if you drink enough and meet enough people you'll be too busy to light up...or maybe it's just will power. good job! :thumbsup

This may sound ridiculous, but here is what I did to overcome the drinking portion:

You know when you drink, you tend to become irrational over little things. For example, if you start drinking and you are slightly upset at your friend, by the time the liquor kicks in, you are full-blown upset.

I just convinced myself everytime I would start drinking that smoking was disgusting. It would expand as I drank.

GUNNER 04-05-2005 08:32 PM
