The world's top three, Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo and Maria Sharapova, were run ragged by Clijsters as she mopped up back-to-back titles in Indian Wells and Miami over the past three weeks.

By winning the two biggest tournaments outside the four grand slams, Clijsters became only the second woman after Steffi Graf in 1994 to achieve the feat in the same season.
