If you remember anything about Cogent it should be that:
1. Cogent owns its own network.
2. The simplicity of the product offerings reduces costs. 3. Ring architecture and Layer 3 protection create a more reliable network. 4. DWDM technology provides Cogent with so much capacity, we can basically give bandwidth away. 5. Cogent is meeting its business plan goals. so can someone tell my why cogent is no good again ? http://www.cogentco.com/valueprop.html |
can someone tell me why we care what you have to say?

Cogent is usually labeled as being "bad" because hosting providers usually oversell it

Cogent can be good in a mix ... but I wouldn't rely on it alone

DWDM = Don't Worry Dumb Motherfuckers? |
It used to be that they were just "slower" than most anyone else... i.e. last time I checked this page (a few months back now), cogent was typically in the yellow.

DWDM - Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing
We use it on all of our dark fibers as well. Basically, it allows for the use of multiple wavelengths (colors) over the same fiber allowing for multiplexing of up to 64Gbps over a standard fiber pair. Thus turning one fiber into many :) |
I have been using cogent in the mix with our other providers and have had no issues whatsoever with them, for us cogents uptime has been better than the rest of our higher end providers. I realy dont understand why everyone bashes them so much, they have their place in the industry. They might not have the best peering agreements but they are good enough to use for non critical stuff , since their latency is usually much higher that the rest of the providers out there. Just my :2 cents:
