That's what the TV is telling people here. Apparently he single handedly defeated communism in eastern europe.

Communism was doomed from the start. It just took humans a few hundred years to clue in, as usual.

When everything out of your mouth is awaited with bated breath by over a billion people, one could pretty much lay claim to responsibility for anything.

The pope decried fighting in Bosnia and called for peace. The fighting eventually ceased, ergo the pope saved that region.
