I've been thinking of a visit to Romania as well. Here's a company I found that has short-term furnished apartment rentals (some w/internet): http://accommodation-in-bucharest.el...apartments.htm

I've driven through couple of times, but the last time was like 10 years ago. Back then it looked like the shittiest hood in the world, roads with huge pot holes, people using tractors as public transport, etc Of course a lot has changed since then, and I advise you to go, at least you're going to see something different....
Very pretty girls too.

Pull your head out of your ass. Most fraud is from the U.S.. then russia. I wont deny Romania has high fraud rates, but check your stats first please. :)

Although I personally wouldn't reccomend visiting Bucharest some people say its nice, most of the locals want to leave. Money is King, so if you've got some to spend then you'll have a great time.

I would prefer to go somewhere like Brasov/Sibiu for nightlife and fun, in the winter at least.

It looks beautiful there i would visit you don't have much to lose if you don't like it leave

Of the six Romainian families I have met and visited their homes over the years, I would not want to visit their country. One of my neigbors is a Romainian family and they let their property disintegrate to a fucking wrecking yard. Right up there with Floridian I-10 shanty type white trash.

only if you pull your head out of your ass first :upsidedow i know what the fraud rates by country are. My chargeback rates from romania are higher since some movies and pics were linked on a few romanian sites and i guess they spotted them off there.

we drove thru there about 10 years ago and we didn't stop once anywhere. on the Hungarian border the agent told us not to stop anywhere unless absolutely necessary or we risk to get ambushed.
Apparently foreign cars were a big target.

Driving towards bulgaria a couple times people threw stuff at the car, it looked like they were aiming for the windshield. There was a group of 3 cars that had pulled over ahead of us, who got struck but they kept driving anyways, my dad stoped to see if they needed any help the guy said they got chased a while ago and told us to keep going and only stop if we need to refill with gas.

We drove non-stop untill we reached the border with Bulgaria I remember my mum was pissed off cause she couldn't pee lol

Don't know if any of this is true anymore but I can say we pretty much agreed we won't be driving thru Romania any time soon again.

Yea, I heard the stories many times back then, but last time we drove through with some friends in 2 cars we had two incidents.

The first one was when we were stopped by some cops, and we thought that they were going to extort a few hundred buck from us. Nothing like that actually happened, they checked our driving licences, passports, and let us go. We had to pay 400.00 DM to the cops in Slovakia, and 100.00 DM to the cops in Seged (sp), Hungaria.

The second incident was when my friend lost control of his car, and the car flew off the road, and landed in the deepest snow I had ever seen. We tried to get it out, but we couldn't, about 30 min later two Romanian guys drove past in a truck, stopped, and pulled us out of the ditch.

darksoul 04-02-2005 06:17 AM

or maybe it was around '89 , hell knows.
But yea, romania is still a retarded country, thats the sad truth.
Some cities are ok, lots of cool places to see, it really depends who
you hang around with.
I wouldn't recommend Bucharest tho, chose something in Transilvania and you
won't regret it.

I agree, Romania is a beautiful country :) but I don't like Bucharest. Nothing to see there, unless you are hunting for hot chicks. :winkwink:
