Best Country To Take Your Family To Live? Your Opinions

I've thought about emigrating a few times. Used to own an apartment in Rome and came close to uprooting the family. I'm 29 and just feel like I've done all I can here in the UK. Nothing seems new any more.

Which would be the best and easiest country to emigrate to for an adult webmaster with a squeeze and 2 kids? The current legal system in the US is scary as hell so that's probably off the cards. I need a country that wouldn't give me any problems legally, has a good education and health system, and doesn't make the immigration process as hard as quantum mechanics.

Your thoughts. :)

I'd say Canada off the top of my head. I don't know a lot about immigration here for British citizens, but it meets the rest of your requirments.

Best place for a family would either be Saudi Arabia, or North Korea. I've even heard Iran is pretty nice as well. All three countries are great for families.

In all honesty though, the United States, Canada, or somewhere else in Europe would be great spots to raise a family.

Canada would rank high on my list...I had a friend who was originally a Dane, became a UK citizen and ended up settling in the south of Spain most of the year and said he loved it...

Personally I'd love to move my family to Canada (wife says it's too cold, so it's out) or Crete/Greece or really any decent country in the Med...good culture, good food, nice beaches

A lovely country and I have family in Barrie, Ontario. I think immigration is pretty tough however.

If your money comes to your bank account via wire or check from someone and if you don't have any corporatin in there, you don't pay tax or something. I am living this way for 5 years. Is it illegal? No.. it seems like i work in the other country and i live in Turkey. That easy.

But in the US, even if you are student, you have to pay your tax.

Martin 04-01-2005 05:46 PM

Canada man

SoftGalleries 04-01-2005 05:48 PM

I've been in Incirlik, Adana once... I have to say those are the worse places i have ever seen in Turkey.. If you wanna see some nice place.. go for Marmaris.. and yes Istanbul is a great place to stay a few weeks.. but i don't recommend to live.. too crowd...

Antonio 04-01-2005 05:52 PM

Since you have a family, your choice lies between USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, and Europe. USA, Canada, Ausralia, NZ requie sought after occupation, plus relevant experience etc for leagl imigration, being an adult webmaster wont get you there.

My number 1 choice in Europe would be Spain, great place, friendly people, and the weather is much better than the weather in the UK...

Mpegmaster 04-01-2005 06:04 PM

Costa Rics or Panama

Have you talked to an accountant? You are obligated to declare your world income in the country you are resident. Never heard an exception on this.

digifan 04-02-2005 02:52 AM

Spain is beautiful...

Adult-biz 04-02-2005 05:32 AM

Good thread. I am in the UK too :)

I considered immigration and have a family also. For that reason alone (family), I chose not to take the step and do it however top of my list was Spain purely for what many consider to be an improved quality of life.

I believe moving to Spain is still relatively easy from a legal point of view and the many people who I know who have gone honestly wished they had done it sooner.

Some great info in here, thanks for all the replies!

Canada would be my first choice and I may have discovered a way in. I've found out that one way into the US is to be an investor. I think you have to invest $100K+ in a business and employ 2 or more US citizens. I'm going to approach an immigration lawyer on Monday and see what the procedure would be for canada. I'm thinking I could buy some apartments (maybe even a motel) and at the very least hire a grounds keeps, a cleaner and possibly security. This is also the kind of business that doesn't require much / usually any of my time. No one need know that I make my money online.

I'm looking into it anyway. Thanks for the ideas!

I looked into Canada once, and if you are moving their for business I think it should be relatively easy. I read something about simply opening an office there as a good way to get in too.

New Zealand without a doubt......

They have a points system taking into account education, age etc

Or you could marry me, I have an NZ passport :)

sarad 04-02-2005 06:58 AM

AUSTRALIA - Definately! :upsidedow

According to a 2002 survey of 130 cities, the Economist Intelligence Unit rated Melbourne and Vancouver in Canada as the best cities in the world in which to live, with Perth ranked third and Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide tied in eighth place!

That covers every major city in Australia!

Glad my parents made the decision to move from Liverpool when I was a kid!

Cheers

I got this Visa - It's called the E-2 Investors Visa. I got mine for opening up a business in upstate NY. However, unless the regulations changed, it never mentioned $100,000 and 2 employees. Rather it said the investment had to be of a "substantial nature" which my attorney said $250K was the unofficial threshhold to get one.
