Vatican: Pope's condition 'has worsened'

VATICAN CITY (CNN) -- Pope John Paul II's breathing is becoming shallow and several of his major organs -- including his kidneys and heart -- are growing weaker, the Vatican said Friday.

CDSmith 04-01-2005 11:30 AM

Is it a bad thing for a news network to report the news?

If the guy is actually dead there are only about 2 billion people in the world who want to know about it.

cherrylula 04-01-2005 11:31 AM

die in peace? gimme a break, he's catholic and there is no such thing.

Unlike the 24 hour mainstream media sources, the Vatican won't announce it the millisecond that they get the information.

CDSmith 04-01-2005 11:32 AM

BREAKING NEWS: the pope just farted.

The world is watching this guy's every flinch, listening to his every bodily function. Unreal.

GatorB 04-01-2005 11:33 AM

Yahoo now reporting Pope dead.

sweetcuties 04-01-2005 11:33 AM

No official word from Vatican... Italian reports are confirming it, not CNN... just a matter of time

DateDoc 04-01-2005 11:34 AM

No, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Sitting there anxiously awaiting word on it is bloody ridiculous though.

CDSmith 04-01-2005 11:36 AM

Rest in Peace JP II.

Now here come a flood of new threads from idiots who can't read...

An incredible man.

Godspeed, John Paul II

Trixxxia 04-01-2005 11:39 AM

The bells haven't rung at the Vatican yet so he's not yet confirmed dead.

LeeNoga 04-01-2005 11:48 AM

Alot of media confusion, they are now saying EEG meaning he is brain dead..not EKG heart dead....

My job obviously.

I'm not blaming the reporters, but what the entire institution has become.

Filling a fulltime news station has brought us to what is nothing more than a deathwatch.

We just saw this same thing with Terri Schiavo.

Are you telling me that the questions the reporters were asking her parents Pastor and Michael Sciavo's lawyer were them REPORTING the news? No, it wasn't. It was them attempting to CREATE news.

They asked both if they took any responsibility for the ongoing feud with each other.

Does the MEDIA take any responsiblity for it? They did nothing but fan the flames for close to a week under the guise of reporting.

RedShoe 04-01-2005 11:51 AM

LOL, go to yahoo. the header says,.. "Pope reportedly dead" click the link and it says, "pope clings to life"

I'm telling you nothing, I was asking what you'd do differently. That's all.

I agree with your other points though. My take is that the news networks like CNN etc need to fill time, and since the reporters are all just standing around waiting for something to happen at any given moment they just sit there and talk on and on and on endlessly about every small nuance of "the story". Why? Because they know that millions upon millions of people viewing have no lives of their own and are sitting in front of their TV's wanting to suck it up like gossip sponges.

But I woudn't go so far as to decry the news networks for doing their jobs. They're there to report the news, period. If that means waiting for someone famous to die so they are able to report it the second he dies, then that's what they do. They are all in competition with each other, and no news network wants to be "scooped" by another or have another network reporting something big even a few minutes before they do. They all want to be first. It's the nature of the media beast we've created.

loverboy 04-01-2005 12:01 PM

yeah, just saw it catholic.com

loverboy 04-01-2005 12:04 PM

just want to correct myself.

The Vatican denies reports in Italian media that Pope John Paul II has died. -- cnn.com

those fuckers are really putting myself on the edge. god bless the pope

Point taken.

I've got a serious hate on for the mainstream media.

I can't stand watching 20/20 or 60 minutes using porn to sell their advertising spots and then spewing out the ills we're causing society. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Point out to them what they're doing and you get the standard answer, "We're just reporting the news."

Bullshit, it's business like everything else.

Trixxxia 04-01-2005 12:06 PM

Well it's definitely a 'full' news month for them so far - Terry Schiavo, The Pope, Next week it's Charles and Camilla & depending on Prince Rainier's health, then it will be that....

Vatican is denying reports that he's dead - very grave, no hope of getting better, but not yet dead. They didn't deny or confirm the flatline that cameras on the monitors were showing.

YAHOO said "reportedly dead"

Dazza 04-01-2005 12:16 PM

Who is this Pope guy?

italianstyle 04-01-2005 12:19 PM

here Italy , he is still alive.

CDSmith 04-01-2005 12:20 PM

It's still too close to Easter, he doesn't know whether to live or die. It's called resurrection limbo.

He's gone. He's back. No he's gone. No, he's back.
