If you aren't making at least $100+ a day then you really need to.....

... not give up. Keep on plugging away at it, you'll get there.

Bet you thought I was going to tell you how useless you are and how the world would be a better place if you just quit adult and kill yourself now, right? Webmasters who say that to newbs are usually the ones having trouble keeping up with the changing landscape of the online industry. They are worried that the competition and sheer numbers of new webmasters is too much for them to cope with.

My advice, however, to anyone not making enough to do this full time is....

if you have an smartass know-it-all or basically punkass attitude, lose it. Drop your bullshit when you're here and just open your head and learn. There is no way a brand new webmaster with a couple of sites is going to know what a veteran webmaster knows, and there is no way you are going to become "a star of the industry" in a few weeks or months.

If you're here to learn and are treating this like a business, bravo.... you're on the right track and will go far.

Don't give up, there is money to be made if you're smart about it.

FuqALot 03-26-2005 01:20 PM

That's why I joined a few years ago :thumbsup :P.
I learned the most from people I know though and not on this board. I guess 1 of 100 threads is useful now. But in 2001 and 2002 there were way more useful people.

adonthenet 03-26-2005 01:26 PM

well said cds

If you aren't making at least $100+ a day then you really need to give up :)

jact 03-26-2005 01:30 PM

Not even close to what I expected to read, I guess I'm getting jaded in my old age. Well put, CD. It's only a matter of time until your business grows. Some people expect results overnight, and they just simply won't last.

Screaming 03-26-2005 01:30 PM

thanks for the words of advice heh

Cains 03-26-2005 01:31 PM

I agree, at the moment my only small site is www.scoreratings.com

the programming side was easy enough, the branding side is the difficult part. But i'm starting to build a decent amount of traffic and link trades with relevant sites. I realise there are some tricks I missed in creating the site but overall it's coming along. Luckily I have businesses in other areas that are doing very well and enable me to work full time on my own projects.

Good thread

Chris 03-26-2005 01:31 PM

send me one sale a day and you will be making 200$ a day ;)

Haha noo.. now it's noobs everywhere. When in 2001 or 2002 you posted a business thread people would reply. The word 'bump' wasn't even used until 2003, no bump needed. Now when you post a business thread its being owned by useless threads and stuff.

Theo 03-26-2005 01:39 PM

bump bump

, altough you are right, the general attitude of the people is different ,but the content of the messages posted is not any different than couple of years back,

Xplicit 03-26-2005 01:47 PM

One thing i'll never get: ENCOURAGING NEWBIES.

Seriously if they're making less than $100/day, GOOD. They can keep their damn dayjob.

pussyluver 03-26-2005 01:47 PM

Maybe your not buying the right traffic?

FuqALot 03-26-2005 01:47 PM

The content is different because of the attitude change. Check out the gfy mainpage right now and see how many posters need to say that other people suck and that they own everyone. Ofcourse there were bullshit threads in the past, but usually just once. At least you knew all the people that were posting. If you check out the mainpage right now you dont know half of the people that started a thread saying they 'own'? everyone.

Post in the webmaster forum not the "fucking around" forum. www.gofuckyourself.com listed right on the main page

ztik 03-26-2005 02:02 PM

Don't worry, there are many here who don't get how it can be a good business move to be encouraging and supportive of others. No worries.

If I didn't get an encouraging word or helpful email from guys like Lightning, Lensman, Shemp, theHun, Mayor fr Porncity, Boneprone, Slick, and a few dozen others who are tops in the game I would not have gotten nearly as far as I have in the past 6+ years of doing this full-time.

Guys like you can go on telling newbs to eat a dick. I'll happily do things my way.

bly 03-26-2005 02:58 PM

What if you just started yesterday, or last week? :Oh crap

It took me 6 months to get to 100+/day, though I was only doing this part-time. But once the cash flows it seems to grow exponentially - and very quickly.

Babagirls 03-26-2005 09:43 PM

nice words of wisdom cd :)
