IDE vs. SATA/SCSI
I see a lot of server setups that have IDE drives installed as standard. Are IDE drives fast enough for webservers with medium to high load, dynamic content and mysql database lookups?
To my knowledgde SATA is only an advantage if you have very large files? |
the problem with the high load servers might , at some point, be the load on the processor, here's where the SCSI kicks in, using it's own proc., takes the load out of the main one/ones...not sure about SATA though...

it depends what you're doing, streaming is poor off IDE servers, better of SCSI.
a general webserver is good with IDE, better with SATA. The cost vs performance ratio, SATA is best. SCSI outperforms them both but the $ for that small performance increase isnt worth it, especially since if it's just a standard webserver you might aswell just cache your top content to memory |
The prize goes to Cains.
