Spyware HELP! I'll pay you! [screenshot]

This shit has been on my computer for weeks. I have tried everything...like 6 different spyware apps including Spybot, Adaware, MS AntiSpyware, Spyware Blaster and more....nothing gets rid of it. I thought it was CoolWebSearch, so I downloaded CWShredder but that doesn't even work. It basically skins everything...it's really fucking me up big time. I was about to activate windows xp pro tonight because the 30 days are up apparantly, but surprise surprise - the fucking shit skinned that window as well!
Is anyone familiar with this?
Help me get this off my machine and I will paypal you money for your troubles.

Here is a screenshot from 5 min ago... the IE window pops up every 10 minutes too, along with 5 or so other ads. Check it out...

Please help me out...get this fixed and I will pay you immediatly.
This is devastating, and only as the very last resort would I do a clean sweep again.
Thanks

There's your problem
You are running some virus called I.E

Dalai lama 03-25-2005 05:30 PM

Get Firefox bro.

SmokeyTheBear 03-25-2005 05:32 PM

use adaware clean and delete all crap , then run shutdown restart , find what files are being recreated, clean again shutdown restart and press f-8 while loading windows to get into safe mode.

Once in safemode remove the files that cant be removed

bangman 03-25-2005 05:33 PM

I do use Firefox. I am not using IE.
The IE window pops open every 10 min or so.

pornguy 03-25-2005 05:33 PM

If you remember the day that it first started, then do a search for everything that was modified that day. Look for something that should not be there and remove it.

Bigjohn 03-25-2005 05:35 PM

Try using system restore.

If that doesn't work, go into safe mode and use spybot in the advanced mode. Look at BHO (Browser helpers) and active X. Delete/disable anything you don't recognize.

Make sure all of your search/home page settings are set to Microsoft defaults (you can use MS antispyware to do this).

So far this has worked for me everytime. It does leave some of the files on your HD but since nothing is pointing to them anymroe it doesn't matter.

pornguy 03-25-2005 05:35 PM

Now send me a 100$. Please.

I have ran Adaware multiple times, but I have never went in safemode and done anything. Do you mean look for the bad file manually and delete them, or run adaware in safemode and delete them through there again?
See, now i'm in a predicament....I always wait to activate windows until the last minute, and that is now. If I loggout of windows I will be prompted to activate before I can use windows...and I fear that the activation window will be skinned with this shit so then I would be at a total loss.

this is one hijack tool called 1800 Search Assistent, and it's impossible to remove ;(
Just reinstall windows, that's my suggestion.

I never thought about using System Restore....my only fear is that If I do the restore then it will prompt me to activate windows, and if the activate windows screen is still skinned then I'm done for.

bangman 03-25-2005 05:50 PM

Well, looks like it was easier then I thought. I found out how to remove this fucker....
Add/Remove Programs. It's listed as "Search Assistant". Can't believe I didn't think of that.
Thanks everyone for your help. :)

darkember 03-25-2005 05:52 PM

run about:buster from http://www.malwarebytes.biz/ to clean the search assistant, there are actually a few programs and it doesn't just go away. Run this, let it scan 2x and don't open IE before rebooting and you should be clear.
