FACT: THERE ARE ONLY 6 CONTINENTs

AFRICA
ANTARCTICA
NORTH AMERICA
SOUTH AMERICA
AUSTRALIA
EURASIA

EUROPE AND ASIA ARE CONNECTED AS ONE LAND MASS. THEREFORE, THEY CANNOT BE CONSIDERED 2 DIFFERENT CONTINENTS.

your wrong man. EUROPE AND ASIA will split in the year 2317

XxXotic 03-25-2005 12:44 PM

think about it, "continent" only refers to a land mass in general, does not state that it must be a landmass independant of other continents. THERFORE europe and asia CAN be considered seperate continents

so, there are 7 continents.

i guess next you'll tell me that since all the oceans are connected it's actually just one ocean right?

hershie 03-25-2005 12:46 PM

Logically, your argument makes more sense, but I suppose it just has to be a large land mass, and not necessarily a singular one.

If you take your theory one step further, then there is only one continent because all the land on Earth is connected (if you sucked out all the water you would be able to see it).

According to this DJ is right, and so are everyone else, as the term is applied to the Earth having both six or seven continents. Since Europe is considered a separate geopolitical entity from Asia it makes sense for most to give it it's own distinction.

This may very well be the first topic on GFY where everyone is right. :1orglaugh

the point is to school uneducated morons.

SmokeyTheBear 03-25-2005 01:32 PM

FACT it says nothing about "above water"

so really if a continent is one continuing land mass then all of earth is ONE continent.

Thats why we gave them labels everyone knows, like oceans.

Alex 03-25-2005 01:33 PM

lol nvm.

That's like saying there's only one Ocean. Also, why would you not include Africa as a part of this super continent? It's connected as well, pick up a globe. So are North and South America for that matter, if you excuse the man-made Panama canal, which was created after the continents were named.

kmanrox 03-25-2005 02:55 PM

Aren't North and South America also connected? That would make it one continent according to your own post.
