Omg I Am Going To Kill A Bird

Okay I can't stand it anymore. I don't know what to do. I sooooooo see why someone told this little guy to hit the road, but I would never do that and it still pisses me off that someone did, but he is driving me crazy.

Yesterday I went home and did the calling back to him thing and it worked I was amazed. I thought wow I might keep him. I found this great cage for him that I am picking up tonight and was so excited. Then this morning he starts screaming at 6am and I mean screaming none stop. So I go out to the living room, naked of course haha and start whistling at him thinking it worked last night should work now, WRONG he just started screaming louder. So I covered him with a thick blanket so it was dark in his cage. SILENCE AWWWW I can sleep. I woke up at around 7:30 uncovered him and he immediately started screaming, worse than ever before. He wouldn't stop so I put his cage on my bed, so I could eat breakfast without convoluting every 5 seconds from his screams. All of a sudden the screaming stops. I go in the bedroom and this is what I found:

Well after a while he realizes kitties can't get to him so he starts back up. I just want to cry. I named him Fred and order a great cage for him. I was just getting excited to have him and then this. I won't give up but I just feel shit I don't know what I feel, I am going crazy haha :Hollering

Irrum 03-24-2005 01:06 PM

that sucks sorry to hear that. When you get a new pet it takes time for them to adjust, hopefully Fred will calm down.

WiredGuy 03-24-2005 01:07 PM

Keep the cage unlocked and I bet he'll keep quiet around those cats.

He sings such beautiful songs at night when I come home from work. I want to record him and play them for you guys. I have never heard a bird sing like this. It's amazing!!! He has like 15 different tunes. and he does different little dances with them. It's so enjoyable to listen to him and watch him. But these screaming fits are making me want to cry. :waaaaahh

WarChild told me last night that I could train him to sit on my shoulder and take a shower with me. I thought that was so cute and I got so excited to do it. I am hoping that when I get him lovie to me maybe that will stop the screaming. :(

Raven 03-24-2005 01:12 PM

Is there, perhaps, a cockatiel rescue program...like they have for greyhounds and other dogs?

I am sure there is but what kind of bird life would he have there? If I could get him to be finger trained and lovie he would be such an amazing birdie. But if he keeps it up and doesn't stop after a long time he might just have to go to the birdie house. :(

Birds are good for one thing only... eating.

'Tiels can be little terrors, especially if the previous owner let 'im get away with voclaizing like he was one of the family.

We had two -- one flown away, one sacrificed for a "nice" apartment.

Your solution is elegant: Fear = Silence.

I'd post flyers on telephone poles, or something, FYI -- heartbreak IS out there, somewhere.

Yeah I already put flyers out and knocked on doors. No one claimed him. :(

Loryn I appreciate the nude walking... where do you live again so I can come watch?

ProjectNaked 03-24-2005 02:12 PM

cats and birds don't mix, don't expect the bird to stop when it is being stalked by the cats - :error

Mr Pheer 03-24-2005 02:20 PM

he squawking because he's happy

but sounds like he's lonely also
get him a birdie mirror for his cage

and my bird (a hahn's macaw) loves warm water

when he gets loud and i cant stand it anymore, I'll grab his water bowl and fill it with warm water... dont know why but he loves to drink it, then he plays in it for a while... i dont care as long as he is quiet

Mr Pheer 03-24-2005 02:22 PM

well actually I see you already have a small mirror for him... get him a couple of bird toys. Birds like toys with bells and loose rope... the like to seperate the rope strands.

get two or three and swap them out every week so he feels like he has something new all the time

Phoenix 03-24-2005 02:23 PM

how many cats do you have?

ArkansasDave 03-24-2005 02:37 PM

maybe Fred doesnt like his name

RRRED 03-24-2005 02:47 PM

I had a parrot that did the same thing when my daughter was born. Scream scream scream.. he hadn't done that before. It was simple attention whore syndrome.

One day after being up all night with a sick crying baby the bird screaming got to me and I opened the window and said "why don't you just get the fuck out?" .... not realizing it had been awhile since I had clipped his wings. Out he went and I felt HORRIBLE...

Two days later I'm feeding the baby, late morning, when I hear a wolf whistle from outside. He fucking came back! I went out and he happily chirped when he saw me and all was good.

Those bastards are very high maintenance and can make any animal lover snap.

Here's what you need to do..... it should work. Every morning take him into the shower with you and let him get all wet. It will take him several hours to preen himself and get all his feathers perfect again. By that time you'll be home from work. Also, buy 7 bird toys and switch them out every day. He's probably just bored.

mardigras 03-24-2005 03:00 PM

You can also keep him company by getting a bird training tape or CD.

sonofsam 03-24-2005 03:03 PM

You threw in the fact that you were naked! i was hoping for a story of a neighbour working in the backyard seeing you and it being awkward... hahha :) oh well :)

Just as I was reading this, I heard a bang at one of our rear patio doors, looked out and this little bird is lying there trying to breath, I thought for a moment he would be ok and then I see blood comming from his mouth, he is dead now so I am out to dig the little guy a grave, he hit the glass hard, I have drawn the blinds now a bit late I know :(

Loryn look forward to seeing You in phoenix, Martina says hi

He is buried now and I hope on his way to birdy heaven, see You next week

Cyndalie 03-24-2005 03:56 PM

he may feel vunerable. try hanging the cage high maybe?

Peter Romero 03-24-2005 05:14 PM

put the cat on top of the cage whenever he screams & see how fast he shuts up. Hopefully the cats paws can reach through the bars on the cage.

Honez 03-24-2005 05:23 PM

Am I the only one that wants to be a bird right now? I would get to see Loryn naked, sleep in her bed and if I was a good birdie, I could take a shower with her too.

LadyMischief 03-24-2005 05:29 PM

Cockatiels can be smart.. give him a week or so to get used to the cats, he will be fine... cover him when you want him to sleep :)

Loryn , if you can ship him
I can take him off your hands .
He'll fit right in here
http://www.twistedbydesigns.com/Animals

The key to keeping them quiet is letting them out of the cage most of the morning .. but I see you have cats so its not the best Idea

SureFire 03-24-2005 07:32 PM

Loryn,

Looking at the pics, just get the bird a cage with a stand. Fred just might stop some screaming. Most birds don?t like to be on ground level.

A few years ago, a beautiful white bird flew into my sliding glass window. I had (have) no clue about birds and it was just laying there. I had no cage, so I used my tennis ball collector basket (not sure what you call it) and put a mirror and water in it for the bird. My cat was really pissed off that one bathroom was shut off to him and the bird was making noise. The next day I went to the pet store to buy food and asked where I could drop him/her off since it appeared to have a broken wing.

All the vets around here wouldn?t even see the bird. I think they all said what breed and my simple response was I don?t know, it was pure white but kind-of green since it shitting a lot. The pet store was quite helpful telling me to get the bird hanging in the air and gave me a number for a bird refuge center. I did remove a hanging plant and place the tennis cage with the bird and told myself I would deal with the shit later. The bird was quiet and my cat was normal.

The refuge center did call a couple days later that they would take the bird an access it. A 1.5 hour drive to drop off the bird, and I felt so stupid that I saved a Pigeon?oh well; at least it has a nice environment to live its life since they took it.

Good luck with Fred, I am pretty sure once he is settled in his new home the screaming will stop. :)

hydro 03-25-2005 01:10 AM

Birds are pretty funny animals. My 3 parrots do some funny tricks when they think nobody is looking, but as far as your bird just put him up on a higher location. It'll make him not as scared and probably stop his screaming. Make sure to put in new food and water at night so in the morning he isnt screaming for you to come and change it

dasexi1 03-25-2005 01:28 AM

your kitties are so pretty :)

Kevsh 03-25-2005 01:37 AM

cats + birds usually don't mix well, at least in the cartoons...
