Hypocrites! 200,000 people die everyday from starvation
Why are we spending so much time on Schiavo?
Because most of us, including Fundamentalists, are more interested in fighting about theories than actually saving lives. Yes, there is a principle at stake here, but it's almost pornographic the amount of attention this case is getting when so many people die EVERY DAY from preventable illnesses. Where are our priorities? :2 cents: |
there's only 70,000 people on the island of Antigua
|
your statics are incorrect
at 200k a day it would be 730 mil a year... i doubt |

Starving black poor people dont sell ad spots.
Put some white suburbanite housewife in front of the camera in the same situation and watch the dollars roll in. Dont get me wrong, I feel for the woman, and I think her situation is regrettable, and if I were in her place I would want all the attention I could for anyone at all to help extend my life (if that is her wish, who the fuck knows but her), I just think its become less about her, and more about whos got better coverage and inside facts. |
cause Terri might want to live and the husbant might be lying about her condition
|
I don't think this woman should be forced to die either. What I'm talking about is how much bloody attention is being paid to this. It's completely out of proportion, as if there isn't another goddamned thing worth reporting or talking about.

White teen girl goes missing, it's all over CNN. White young girl gets abducted, CNN gives full-time coverage. White woman about to have the plug pulled, CNN devotes hours a day. |

Terri Schiavo is more than just a dying brain damaged woman, she represents a greater issue than just giving a lot of attention to her.
And FYI, the US gives more money to others countries than any other country in the world. If people are hungry in this country, they can go just about anywhere and get a meal. If other countries have starving citizens, we help, but its time that their governments take responsibility for them too. |
here is a MUCH MORE worthy website to visit if you want to stop starvation......
http://www.feedthechildren.org at least these kids have a life and arent vegetables...... |

I dont see too many white folks on BET...... :1orglaugh EVER!!!!!! |
Food isnt the problem, there is plenty of food to stuff everyone several times over.
People are starving primarily in countries ripped apart by war. |
This looks like a good time for my first ever 'see sig'

Point is, all this attention to the PRINCIPLE of life, but not the FACT of it. 350,000 people have lost their lives in a genocide in Darfur. 350,000! Can your heart take all that death? How about a few stories about that! Might as well bring back Michael Jackson instead of being hypocrites. |
I wish more people would die, they just use up all my resources.

I sale short ICQ

I agree with you, however, that this has gone way too far and it reminds me of the Karen Anne Quinlan case from way back in the day. |

DomBuyer - You are right that there is a preoccupation over Terri's case.
Not that she is any less deserving of consideration than the many more who have died since this hit the headlines in the US. The Schiavo case is now almost a total incestuous issue and, as you might expect, has been politicised beyond any rationality. The media, known for their uselessness, have also contributed to this by introducing a range of views and including opinions of doctors. Meantime, all of them have no facts to work with and even admit they cannot specifically comment on Terri's condition. Kinda pointless. Meantime.. there are plenty more who have died - even within the US and many more globally. In addition to Darfur there are millions dying needlessly worldwide - I don't see the US media giving them more than 3 minutes of air time. It ain't my biz and ain't qualified to say... but maybe in Terri's instance it would not be unreasonable for others to stay the fuck out of it and Michael and Terri's parents have a consensus on this - unless they all agree to terminate, leave her alone. It does not take a bullshit govt to get in the way and give their unqualified opinions - they need lesson 101 in government and get the fundamentals of separation of powers straight in their heads. |

The actual figure is about 60,000 a day die from hunger and malnourishment related causes. Majority are children in 3rd world countries.
44% of the world's population is illiterate and can not read even simple sentences. That's over 2 1/2 Billion people. 3 Billion people survive on less than $2 a day. 1.3 Billion people have no clean water 3 Billion do not have their own bathroom 2 Billion people do not have electricity in their home yet Half the world's children grow up in poverty. 11 Million children a year die before they reach age 5 15 Million children are orphans due to AIDS Sobering stats and we should all be ashamed to allow these conditions on our planet. |

so no talk about Antigua today?
you want to talk staving. Antigua has thoudsand's of them right outside your Villia |
I could be wrong but I don't think nearly that many people die per day of starvation. Regardless, a lot do, and you make a good point. The reason that attention is not paid to these people is because they're poor, and generally non white. Simple as that.
Trust me, if Switzerland ran out of food, people would care. Africa... fuck 'em. |

Agree KRL!! :thumbsup There are two kinds of people on this planet - the "non people" and "the people". Sadly, it is rare that these two peoples ever meet or would know much about each other. But.. there are many orgs and individuals working each day or this and helping constructively - but even they keep asking for help that does not come too quick :-) |
