is firewire externals the fastest EXTERNAL types?

Grab a maxtor 80 gig external, works great.

Firewire is a little slower than USB2... 400mbps compared to USB2's 480mbps

BTW, the WD has both firewire and USB2 ports.

I have a western digital 200 gb external usb 2 drive. It works great, fast and quiet. Fry's computers has them for $109 after rebates. I don't know if there is a fry's in your state. The online retailer for fry's is tigerdirect.com. ---oh yeah and it comes with Retrospect express that makes backing up easy.

I'm using a 140 GB Western Digital drive. Works like a charm.
