But if they don't show it, then how are the religious nuts going to get educated? Sheesh.
|
heh and they will never end
|
I participated in a religion/politics poll on msn the other day, and was fuckin' shocked to see that over 50% of the people who took it believe in creationism over evolution.
Wowsers. |

A few years back I saw a 3D film at the N.O. IMAX called "The Last Buffalo". It was spectacular :thumbsup
Also saw a Rolling Stones concert there. You haven't lived until you see Mick Jagger's nostrils 8 ft tall :1orglaugh |
If we're going back to the 50's, where can I get a 1950's wife ?

It requires some reading and analysis, but this Natural History magazine piece featured a series of essays regarding evolution theory versus the Christian faux science "intelligent design" theory:
Intelligent Design versus Evolution Among other quasi political-religious efforts, Christian religious zealots in the U.S. are organizing an attempt to take over school boards and legislative bodies in order to promote an agenda that helps them raise funds to promote views that run contrary to science. The banning/boycott of the IMAX movie that dares mention evolution is a manifestation of this, as is this current attempt in the Florida legislature to allow students to sue professors who teach evolution, to the exclusion of the non-scientific religious creation theory that they wish to see taught: Law Drafted to Help Students Sue "Totalitarian Dictator" Professors That Teach Evolution We must stop this religious craziness in it's tracks - not just Christianity, but all forms of religious brainwashing must be confronted and debunked. The fact is, that much of the violence and strife in the world is formented by religious extremists. Only a secular society, that values science over superstition, can provide any hope for peace and advancement of human civilization. ADG Webmaster |
IMAX is a business, and their reasons for not showing it in those southern cities were based on basic marketing principles. I don't blame them for not showing it in a market that would likely be uninterested in seeing it.

Also, I lived in the South for a few years, so I know that not everyone who lives there is an inbred redneck. In any case, taking issue with my analogy is off topic. If you have anything to offer on the evolution versus intelligent design debate, or about IMAX theaters in the South copping out and refusing to show a movie that dares to note the scientific connection between volcanoes and evolution, based upon their supposed view that it might be unpopular with religious kooks (even though the movie is not even remotely centered on the creation versus evolution debate), have at it. Even unevolved religious knuckle draggers are entitled to an opinion. ADG Webmaster |

1. Sales aren't profits 2. What if the previous record holder had $1.50 in sales? Look at yourself, you can't back up your claims, so you've become a 12 year old. Change the subject by calling me names. Get a hold of yourself and be mature. |

I'm sure most of them still believe the Earth is flat. :1orglaugh |

1. Fahrenheit 9/11 was extremely profitable (doubt it, do your own research dumbass). 2. If the previous record holder had only $1.50 in sales, then Fahrenheit 9/11 totally kicked it's ass (proving once again that you are a dumbass that just had your ass kicked again - even though I'm not assuming that you are capable of understanding that). If you are capable of intelligent discourse and have anything to say about IMAX theaters in the South blocking showings of "Volcanoes of the Deep Sea" simply because it mentions evolution, or the Intelligent Design versus Evolution debate, I would love to hear about it. Otherwise, your PeeWee Herman-esque "I know you are but what am I?", debate style is pretty feeble, so don't be disappointed if I don't keep feeding your need for attention. ADG Webmaster |

The movie could have very easily been profitable as a whole, but lost money in the southern market due to lack of sales. Look at yourself, you're still calling me names? Seriously, how old are you? |

The problem in such cases is that not enough people give a damn enough to band together and boycott/criticize/yada yada to any beneficial extent...
People don't know how to work together.. just as with the gas prices.... If enough people just didin't buy gas for a few days, the prices would drop quick-like... Too many just go with the flow.. don't make waves.. get fucked in the ass.. it's all good just as long as they don't have to do anything outside of their protective little shells... |

I saw Fahrenheit 911 during the middle of a workday in a county with the highest concentration of registered Republican voters in Texas. The place was packed and the audience cheered. 911 played in that theater for at least a month. But then, Texas isn't really the south. Mighty red though. :upsidedow :winkwink: :upsidedow |
