Improve GFY forum organization

Honestly, think about this a little. The threads get buried too fast and potential business is lost in the process. We need something of a Business forum where designers, content providers, and domain owners can negotiate and transact without all the threads falling to page 6 or page 14 before we can relocate them.

Can we get a b2b type forum please ?

NaughtyRob 03-23-2005 12:35 AM

I somewhat agree, yes but only this.... there needs to be an announcement and spam forum section.

James White 03-23-2005 01:20 AM

This has been brought up a few times, doesnt seem to ever get a response though. I wish it would be done.

Kevsh 03-23-2005 01:21 AM

A lot of threads deserve to get buried quick, so yes, it's unfortunate that some of the useful ones get lost.

SmokeyTheBear 03-23-2005 01:23 AM

Ill tell you one big column on the first page that makes no sense at all.

The "LAST POST" section. On gfy it will always be within the last few minutes so its rather pointless :)

Illicit 03-23-2005 01:25 AM

dont fuck with the gfy, you will ruin it

Brujah 03-23-2005 01:34 AM

ok well I just need some designers, and some content. but i know if i post and ask, it'll be on page 10 before i can find it and others miss it too.

if you want to contact me, icq me

PHPdude 03-23-2005 01:36 AM

i think this site is perfect just the way it is

reynold 03-23-2005 01:53 AM

I agree with PHPdude. Drastic changes might ruin everything.

you could always bump it every so often.

Trax 03-23-2005 02:08 AM

a dedicated business forum would not work
all you can do is limit the crap on the main index, eg. delete postwhore contests and such

Zester 03-23-2005 02:34 AM

don't do something to GFY that will destory it
if you keep only the big players here - you will destory it.

to many irrelevant posts? divide the fourm by subjects (smartly), it works on other boards - it will work here too if you do it right

Yes it would.
I know a local wm board that has a moderated "business only" forum and a chat forum.

Chat forum is always full, and a lot of people also post in the business forum.

TheMob 03-23-2005 02:43 AM

I think this forum could easily handle 4-5 sub forums and still be plenty fast. But then again, why fix it if it ain't broke?

you're right about the fact it ain't broken - no matter the bullshit - GFY is still rocking

Barefootsies 03-23-2005 05:54 AM

Noone's talking about anything drastic. Maybe adding one more subject or forum for business. That way business is conducted there, and all of the normal chat, news postings, and such are kept in that forum.

Brujah 03-24-2005 02:05 AM

bump

too short approved

Maybe you need to learn more about VB.

The tools are in VB to track your threads. Try Quick Links/Subscribed threads, that gives me a list of all the threads I've posted in. makes it easy to find stuff that I've started.

Brujah 03-24-2005 02:22 AM

how do I tell vb to subscribe to threads I post in, but NOT send me emails about them ?

Stacey_JoinRightNow 03-24-2005 04:17 AM

yeah...this is a very NICE idea...i second that :)

NewbieNudes 03-24-2005 04:23 AM

I concurr - splitting down to a few more main topics can't hurt.

Quick Links > Edit Options > Message Thread Options and change it to no emails

Brujah 03-24-2005 05:20 PM

thanks videoj, found it. that'll help tremendously.

I recommend making biz.gfy.com for the business stuff :)
comps.gfy.com for comps

allanuk.gfy.com for new/current affairs

:D

Juicy D. Links 03-24-2005 05:24 PM

Brujah , there is a option where it puts a check mark next to posts that you posted in and such , It helps alot for example if you want to come back and your thread is buried. Sometimes i bookmark also just in case.

Brujah 06-01-2005 12:19 AM

Thanks for both, the subscription tip and the new forum! :)

Zester 06-01-2005 12:52 AM

this thread is 2.5 months old god damn it

Brujah 06-01-2005 01:00 AM

So ? I went through and cleaned out some of my subscriptions after the tips given in this thread. Maybe they'll be useful to someone else, especially without the search feature.

nothing against you

I just had a secret hope this thread (like all others) will be forgoten under the 100 milion threads this board has a day - so GFY will remain the same board that I love now :)
