Goddam fucking Mac users

everyday it seems some new member bugs me about not being able to play back the .wmv's for one of my sites...

and i have a help section to explain they need the new Windows Media Player for Mac and they still claim it doesn't play back

can some Mac user confirm whether or not they can actually play .wmv's on their Mac with this new Windows Media Player install for Mac OS X?

are the members just idiots or are there still issues with .wmv's and Mac's?

Flu 03-22-2005 11:22 PM

.wmvs should play on mac OSX. your members are idiots.

I work for a pay site and we use macs all day long and .wmvs work just fine.

fris 03-22-2005 11:26 PM

speaking of macs, i have to use one when i visit my brother hes a dr. those drs and their macs :p

Babaganoosh 03-22-2005 11:28 PM

Haha. Mac users are just a couple of steps above WebTV users and one step above AOL users.

Flu 03-22-2005 11:28 PM

I love the fact that I'm use to pressing Apple+key so when I get home I'm constantly jamming ALT like a fool on my PC. GO MAC YOURE A WINNER!!

I can play .wmv's just fine most of the time. Sometimes it gets fucked up and I don't know the reason behind it, but 90% of the time theres no problem. :2 cents:

TheMob 03-22-2005 11:31 PM

link me to one of your wmv's and i'll tell you.

some 'goddam fucking PC webmaster' encode things in an odd fashion sometimes.

aico 03-22-2005 11:32 PM

Mac's Rule!!! PC's are for the poor folk who can't afford real computers.

wtfent 03-22-2005 11:37 PM

Worked fine on my Mac.

Easton 03-23-2005 11:01 AM

thanks for the input so far...

here is what he's saying:

"I'm using a Mac G4 laptop and using safari. Operating
sysmtem is os X. Since i dont have a mouse i have to
down load it, no right click. and i get this message:
the file name, directory name, or volume syntax is incorrect.

It would be cool if i could stream it."

any of you Mac users got this message and if so what the hell does it mean?

Cory, you are so helpful :)

Barefootsies 03-23-2005 11:18 AM

AOL users are the worst of the worst.

In 9 years of running various sites, they are always e-mailing you because shit doesn't work on their system, or asking you reconvert your site to whatever it is that AOL file types are.

Same here. I hate them.

I give them URL to download WMP, some of them can use it properly, some of them cannot.

But there is a bigger problem than Mac users... Those using firewalls... Their browser does not send Referer information and they can't watch most videos. I cannot know settings for all firewall software, I just tell them to close all security software. They always ask for a refund in the second email.

Trayce 03-23-2005 02:23 PM

Easton, don't worry - it's your customers. :) I handle customer service for MaxCash sites and I have both Mac and PC (but prefer my Mac hands down!) I have no trouble with .wmvs on our sites on the Mac... I think your customer's problem is his browser. Tell him to try using IE for Mac (available at http://www.mactopia.com) or Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) to browse the site. Safari is just not good for porn sites. I would also put this in your help pages as it will avoid many emails for you. :)

As for a G4 without a mouse... I think he meant he only has a one-button mouse. You can use third party mice (like Microsoft's Intellimouse) and have the right click work to give you alt menus, but if you have the standard one button Mac mouse (the only sucky part Apple refuses to let go of) it's a pain to get to said alt menus.

If you have any more questions or ever need stuff tested on a Mac, LMK... traycedactyl on AIM (sorry - I rarely use ICQ)

Cory W 03-23-2005 02:27 PM

I don't have a mouse either to be honest.

G4 Laptop, latest one here.

Rich 03-23-2005 02:29 PM

I can play .wmv's fine when I download them, but a lot of sites that embed the movies into an html page don't work properly on my mac. For example, some pay site trailers and a lot of those joke/funny clip sites.

OH AMEN!!!! I hate firewalls! Customers are afraid of changing anything on their computers and would rather screw us than follow some simple directions!

Fortunately, us MAC USERS don't have to worry so much about VIRII, so firewalls aren't terribly necessary! God bless the Mac!

Haha thats so true
Biggest bunch of retards. They use a mac cause couldn't figure out how to work the PC

Azlord 03-23-2005 02:36 PM

control - click = right click for mac....

and you have to download wmv file in most cases for mac. You can stream in FF from the page itself if the web page is coded to do that, but it will not pop a wmv file into the player like windows does.

members are retarded...

Oh... I missed the laptop part... but the laptops do only have one button, so what I said applies.

I have two buttons on a third party mouse myself, but you can tell your customer that Control+click is the same as a right click. That's the *control* key, not the Apple key. :)

And what word would you use for those of us that know both systems?

Azlord 03-23-2005 02:51 PM

Tracye

hold down control and then click your one button mouse, watch all the menus appear just as if you right clicked on a 2 button mouse. Works great with my power book....

Azlord 03-23-2005 02:56 PM

Just saw you said that in a previous edit.

alt- backspace is a good one too.
delete words...

Trayce 03-23-2005 03:04 PM

:thumbsup Azlord. Just learned that little ditty about Control+Click... never needed it before. Just getting back to Macs after a way-too-long hiatus in Bill's evil empire. :helpme

Do your sites have movies in the tours? That way - if they can watch the movies in the tour - they should be able to watch the movies in the site???

Azlord 03-23-2005 03:10 PM

it's all good.

here are some more fun ones
alt and "left or right arrow" skip between (control instead of alt for PC users)
alt+shift+arrows highlights words
apple+tab to switch between programs
then all the expose shit F9 , F10, F11

I use those a lot. You may already know those tho.

Anytime you want to take an IQ test and compare results, you just let me know...

85% of Mac users know how to use BOTH Mac and PC, and choose to use the Mac because it is far superior.

But hey, you keep on keepin on with all your viruses, spyware, adware, crashes, blue screens of death, and other great shit that has no effect on Macs...

Oh, and by the way, your great new Firefox browser... based off of Safari which Macs have had for years, about time you smart guys caught up to us retards ... :thumbsup

Azlord 03-23-2005 03:21 PM

Now Now, I love Macs too... but here do this for me really fast.
export a wmv file from Final Cut Pro, or maybe a 3 party plugin that doesn't take FOREVER to do...

Macs need to catch up with PC's in that aspect... :-(

Actually most of us use Mac's because we can afford the best computers money can buy. Every TGP submitter running a windows box would suck a man's dick to have my flawless G5 powermac.

Loyal Windows users are the biggest jokes in the history of modern commerce. Name another product that people keep buying over and over again that is well below industry standards, constantly fucks up, has thousands of security flaws, and needs upgrading all the time? If MS Windows were a car, they wouldn't sell 10.

Pornwolf 03-23-2005 05:43 PM

When Macs finally give in and include 2 buttons on the laptop mouse pad then I will be a 100% convert. Until then...

Which is exactly why a Mercedes costs more than a Datsun ....

yes the tours have .wmv's in them too, so i have no idea how they manage to see those and not the members area content LOL

they must simply convert off the pics alone...

My hand built P4 Extreme Edition is much much faster than a dual 2.0 G5.
The memory supplied with the G5's (3-3-3-8) is garbage at a much higher price than good DDR RAM.

Anyone who is truly considering switching to Mac should read Anand Shimpi's excellent "Month with a Mac" article:

Flashbacks to my CCBill days.... I remember arguing with idiot AOL or WebTV customers because they signed up for a website and tried to canx and get refunded the subscription the same night.

They all try to use tech. ignorance as their defense and I would actually laugh at em and called them on it just about everytime.

fuckin assholes

tahiti 04-06-2005 01:10 PM

windows media fuckin sucks!

use real format, quicktime or mpeg.

Most of the streams in wmp suck on mac
