I'm a Republican but my party's stance on Teri Shiavo DISGUSTS me!

I'm appalled at how many right wing Republicans are rallying to the Teri Shiavo "cause" in the attempts to intervene with her feeding tube being removed!!! They accuse the husband and doctors of "playing God" when in fact it's them [Republicans] that are attempting to play God by defying natural selection. It is not inherent for a human being to be kept alive by machines...that's man's way, not God's (nature) way.

Her brain is dead. Never to be recessitated. Ever. She has not moved in years and deserves to die with some dignity. The portion of her brain that controls motor skills is GONE! No more. Caput. Ceases to be. Let her go already.

And comes her husband that Bible-thumpers are accusing of being an "adulterer" because he chose to move on and find another woman. Give me a fucking break and cry me a fucking river! What do you expect him to do? Drop in at nights for a quickie? Maybe they can share romantic walks on the beach or have kids. He did what 99% of the men in this world would do and 1% would lie about doing when their spouses ask.

I am a Republican and I will stand up and admit that what they [Republican Party] are attempting to do is absolutely appalling and terrible. The ones perpetrating this crusade are right wing nut jobs but none-the-less, they are still Republicans and represent what the Republicans have to offer. A truly sad, sad day in Republican history. :(

time to jump over to the green party

ytcracker 03-22-2005 09:32 PM

i completely agree

im a libertarian but i tend to vote republican

FunForOne 03-22-2005 09:38 PM

Its a tuff situation. Dont forget many, many democrats also voted with the deal the other night.

I'm on the fence about it. I think alot of politics is going on for sure, but the real reason they are doing this is because they are worrying about the precendence this will set for similiar situations.

It doesnt hurt that this situation is hurting the democrats arguements in future. The case is a known loser, its one of those lose the battle win the war type things.

If we know one thing about the democratic party is that they allow the looney loud far left speak for them, these people are taking a public stance on behalf of the party. Its going to essentially confuse potential democratic voters on furture value debates.

How about your party, the Republicans, stand on porn and free speech rights?

Thats what disgusts me!

You present some very valid points.

The "Slippery Slope" theory has been presented ad nauseam during this debacle. If you allow something to be voted out now then it will eventually lead to other things being outlawed. I understand the theory but don't fully agree with it.

Following that logic, if you banning quad-runners or jet skis now it will eventually lead to the banning of Trucks and Boats. It's failed logic as best.

Um, I'm a Republican and I deal with adult. So I guess that rules out the entire Republican party. Shucks.

You're generalizing one particular group because of the opinions of some. Are all the North Koreans or Iraqis bad people? I don't think so. Simply because they are affiliated with their respected country does not mean they agree to all their actions and decisions. :2 cents:

I think you're more worried about he Uber Conservative and Fanatical Right when you're thinking of Free Speech and Pornography than you are of the general Republican party. Another :2 cents:

Yea, but add the variable of activists judges with political agendas. Its better to expose that to the public while being on the side of trying to save someone's life.

The republicans could pick worse situations in which to fight this battle. Dont be mistaken about this thing, I dont have it all figured out yet, but the democrats are down, they are trying to put their foot on the democrats neck.

The Republican party isn't what it once was.. They have lost their roots and have been taken over by fundamentalists

MattO 03-22-2005 09:55 PM

This morning's Gallop poll showed 56% repubicans and 62% democrats were in favor of yanking the tube

And from ABC's Poll:
"The poll also found that solely among those Republicans surveyed, Congress' action did not win strong backing. According to the poll, 58 percent of Republicans believed the intervention in the case was inappropriate and 61 percent supported removing Schiavo's tube."

If by fundamentalists you mean southern democrats then your correct.

Those fundamentalists that voted clinton in office.

I guess that imoral chubby chassing, cigar stuffing, thong voyuer act in the oval office actually did hurt the democratic party's chances of regaining the whitehouse.

You actually make a good point.

At least we still have that old party.

If the LP would stop sticking their feet in their mouths anytime they have a national platform, I think you would see a mass migration (of at least republicans).

Seems every time they get a national stage they love to talk about abolishing the "war on drugs" and "deregulation of free markets". Gee -- let's make the uneducated on both sides hate us in one fell swoop.

I swear to God their chief political strategist is a retard.

I realize I'm WAY off topic here, so let me just say...

I think is a shame that either side is making this a political battle. It's a legal matter between the parents and the husband. I wish it would have stayed that way.

Take notice of how many democrats are on television now argueing for "states' rights".

Thats against a core value of the democratic party.

The cruel punishment portion of the death penalty debate is over.

Thats why you havn't seen Hillary on television, she doesn't want Rush to get a tape of her on this one.

Really -- I know it's fun to laugh, but can you back it up?

Please give us your polling data on the beliefs of the majority of US "republicans" as it pertains to free speech and porn.

Sample size and margin of error are not optional.

This should be interesting.

I cant stop laughing at the liberals bashing the southern religious redneck "fundamentalists."

They dont realize those people are registered democrats.

"JesusLand" is made up of democrats and it aint the republican party making fun of them.

2006 is going to be interesting.

Lev 03-23-2005 12:56 AM

Kevsh 03-23-2005 12:58 AM

Someone should do an audit after all of this is over to see how much of your taxpayer money was wasted on this ridiculously long appeal process. Not to mention congress' involvement. A shame.

Her cerebral cortex is liquified. She can't feel. Even if she could feel, they will give her lots and lots of morphine.
