Like no other nation, the Philippines celebrates Holy Week, also known as Easter and Lent, with many Filipinos taking the opportunity to go on vacation between a variety of religious and semi-religious events and celebrations in every city and town around the country.

The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is literally re-enacted in bloody spectacles in several places next weekend. It's not for the faint-hearted, but large crowds turn out particularly in Cutud and other towns in Pampanga.

i saw that on the news one time, it is insane, alot of people go up on the cross too.

I sometimes asks why do some Filipinos allow themselves to suffer through such physical ordeals? Some believe and treat it as a way for atoning for the sins they committed in the past year(s).

I saw pics from last years parade and nailing since my friend was vacationing there... it was insanity... he even got fuckin splattered with some blood from the canings.

But these "rituals" aren't necessarily approved by the Catholic Church. It is in fact prohibited to do so, only thing is it's been "tradition" among the old folklore and it's passed down from generation to generation. :2 cents:

yeah, i've seen some men dragged crosses during Holy Week when i was a kid. their backs would be flogged and they'd scream in pain. scary scene, i tell ya. :Oh crap

its something i would rather not experience, i pity those poeple who still believe in painful sacrificial customs. id stay home and watch porn. lol :winkwink:
