How much water should you drink everyday?

I've heard many things:
1. 8, 8oz glasses
2. 1 gallon
3. 1oz for every lb you weigh
4. 64 oz plus 8oz for every 25 lbs you want to lose

So what's the consensus?
I've been trying to drinkn at least 1 gallon each day.

gangbangjoe 03-22-2005 11:06 AM

3 litres a day

VanessaG 03-22-2005 11:07 AM

i think those numbers are all bs. depends on the person. heres what i do.... if im eating a meal i will drink some kind of juice with my meal. besides that i drink water all day long whenever i'm thirsty or before i get thirsty. if i'm working out i drink a lot more. if you drink water when you're thirsty then you should be good.

If you are trying to lose weight I would say drink a glass of water whenever you feel hungry then eat. You will find you can't eat as much.

Drake 03-22-2005 12:27 PM

The only two things I drink are water and tea. I rarely have tea though.

I probably drink 1-2 litres of water per day. That's just a guess. I don't try to drink any specific amount. I let my body dictate how much I need to drink. If I'm thirsty I'll drink, if I'm not thirsty I won't drink.

I do the same with food. I've never been a 3 meal per day person. I eat when I'm hungry.

Totally. Drink enough to not be thirsty or dehydrated but not enough to get bloated. Your body will tell you what's up, just listen to / feel it.

zentz 03-22-2005 12:31 PM

dunno but i drink about 2l

beemk 03-22-2005 12:34 PM

if you're trying to lose weight drink when you get a snack craving too. a lot of the time if you're thirsty your body will think you're hungry. thats why they say drink a lot of water if you want to lose weight.

CDSmith 03-22-2005 12:36 PM

Most people don't drink enough water daily. If you're the type that isn't all that into water, your best bet is to get in the habit of drinking a glassful right before bed to flush your kidneys, and at least one to two glassfuls throughout your day every day. That should be minimum,

and it isn't BS. Drinking more water isn't BS, it's healthy. People would prevent a lot of ailments later in life if they'd only look after themselves earlier in life, and water is an essential part of it.

Actually, you should never wait until you are thirsty to drink water. That is the first sign of dehydration. The average adult should drink 2.5 liters of water a day. More if they excercise and during warmer weather. The rule is for every hour of exercise, an extra liter of water. :)

Furious_Female 03-22-2005 12:45 PM

I <3 water. :)

ssp 03-22-2005 12:48 PM

About 2 litres. Not including my cups of tea.

Mmm.. tea.
