Deadly School Shooting - Again

A GUNMAN had shot more than a dozen people at a school on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota.

The FBI, which has been called into the investigation, said eight people had been killed and the suspect was believed to be among those dead.

AP reports that police chief deputy Tom Lyons said up to 14 other people were injured in the mid-afternoon shooting.

Other news reports said the suspect shot his grandfather and his grandfather?s wife before heading to the school and shooting people there.

Red Lake High School, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, has about 300 students, according to its website.

There were roadblocks reported around the reservation.

The reservation is about 390km north of St Paul and is home to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.

Sure. It would be better to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on a murder case.

Notice how the story has been so downplayed so far compared to other less deadly school shootings ... the news media doesn't just report news, they in a 'round about way make the news by hyping some events while downplaying/ignoring others.

The only way I see a school shooting event making the same type of headlines as Columbine is 1. the shooter(s) kill more than 15 and/or 2. the shooter(s) and/or victims are exceptionally good looking; perceived to have an overly interesting life.

xclusive- I agree ... they'll likely be more very soon - not just because of copycats, but also due to for some reason that late in the school year (Spring) tends to be when many students go berzerk - guess by that time they're so fed up/depressed from the whole school social situation they go on the war path ... I can't help wonder if the news media influences kids to go on such rampages; videogames often get blamed, but shouldn't be ... kids who do such shootings often seek publicity and fame - videogames don't provide that, but the news media certainly does ... and yes, I'm really rambling on here ... so I close with this ... remember back to after the Columbine shooting ... Time printed the pictures of all the victims and the 2 shooters on their magazine cover ... guess who were shown most promenently - yep, the 2 shooters were shown side by side in large full color pics in the middle of the cover while the 15 victims were shown in tiny black and white pics around the two large color photos of the shooters ... now what kind of message does that send to young people - shoot up your school, kill enough people, and you too can be on the cover of Time in live color with lots of fanfare while the victims only get a brief mention; worse, the accompling article may even justify the shooting and actually make out the shooter as the victim - and that's not some farout notion ... to some extent, the Columbine shooters were made out to be victims - crazy stuff!

End of my late nite tirade LOL!

Ron

The only thing that matters to CNN these days is the battle over keeping a brain-dead woman alive.

But another factor here is that this is in a remote town, apparently. And CNN, for one, basically has a philosophy: "It only happens if it happens on camera."

Sad but true.

Here's an update on the story:

9 dead in total: 1 teacher, 1 security guard, 5 students and his grandparents before taking his own life.

"Witnesses said 15-year-old Jeff Wiese - a tall, quiet loner who was teased about his looks - smiled as he gunned down helpless victims."
